Top management team(TMT)is responsible for the development of strategy and decision-making in the enterprises.Whether top management team(TMT)focus on innovation or not and how much attention determine the strength of innovation attention allocation of enterprise directly.But according to enterprises' rich practice,TMT of different enterprise has different degree of innovation attention.Rresearchs had studied the impacts which TMT heterogeneity has on organizational innovation performance directly,while ignoring the importance of innovation attention in the chain of relationships between TMT heterogeneity and organization innovation performance.So,this paper examines the impacts which TMT heterogeneity has on TMT innovation attention,just making up for this research gap.Based on the theory of Upper Echelons Theory and Attention-Based View of the Firm,we collected 510 top management teams and firm data from A-shared listed manufacturing firms in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets from 2011 to 2015.Using empirical research and automated text analysis to research the impacts which TMT heterogeneity has on TMT innovation attention,that TMT heterogeneity are decided by differences in age,tenure,education and functions of top managements' members.The results are as following:(1)TMT tenure heterogeneity is positive related to TMT innovation attention;(2)TMT education level heterogeneity is positive related to TMT innovation attention;(3)TMT career background heterogeneity is positive related to TMT innovation attention;(4)TMT age heterogeneity isn't positive related to TMT innovation attention;(5)CEO duality plays a positive regulatory role on the relationship of between executive team heterogeneity and executive team's attention to innovation.This paper takes the executive team heterogeneity as the independent variable to study its impact on TMT innovation attention.It enrichs the research results of UpperEchelons Theory;From cognitive perspective,studying influences which TMT heterogeneity has on corporate behavior is a useful complement to the concept of TMT attention;Analysis conclusion that CEO duality plays a positive regulatory role on the relationship between TMT heterogeneity and TMT innovation attention enrichs the results of Upper Echelons Theory;The conclusion has a certain guiding effect on forming an efficient TMT and promoting innovation attention of enterprise.
