Since the reform and opening up,the retail industry contributes more and more to the national economy.As of 2014,China’s retail industry become the most promising competitive industry,total retail sales of social consumer goods has reached 27.2 trillion RMB,accounting for 42.75% of gross domestic product.Not only the proportion of retailing is in the increase,the retail format structure also appeared in earth-shaking changes.From a single department store before the reform and opening up to today’s 16 kinds of formats common development,which enriches the form and content of retailing.The development of retail formats has got much academic attention,but the use of efficiency evaluation of the performance of the format to start research is not much.Based on the research of the scholars,this paper expatiates on the development process of the retail formats,the basic performance of the industry and the format development issues.By using the Stochastic Non-parametric Envelopment of Data(StoNED)method proposed by Kuosmanen in 2006,the performance comparison of 11 formats from 2008 to 2014 was studied.This paper hopes to enrich the methods of performance evaluation of retail formats,and provides some references for the rational distribution of retail formats and rational investment of enterprises.This paper is divided into six parts.The first part mainly introduces the research background,significance,purpose,literature review,research methods and so on.Literature review from the format,efficiency evaluation,StoNED discussed in three aspects.The second part mainly introduces the theoretical research part of this article,introduces the related concepts,classification and StoNED theory.The third part introduces the history of retail development at home and abroad,and then uses the data analysis to analyze the competitive situation between different formats.Compare to its shop efficiency,Ping effect and human performance and other basic performance indicators.The fourth part and the fifth part are the empirical analysis of this paper.Firstly,StoNED method is used to analyze the performance of 11 formats.Then,we choose the specialty store and supermarket to conduct regional analysis on performance.Empirical results show that specialty stores,gas stations,convenience stores,factory outlets,warehousing members shop performance is better;department stores,supermarkets,supermarkets,performance center;home building materials stores,discount store performance is poor.The performance of the retail chain is different in different areas,among which the ranking of the supermarkets is Eastern> Central> Western,while the specialty stores are Eastern> Western> Central;and there are big differences in the development of different formats in the same area.The sixth part is the conclusion of the study,and put forward the effective development suggestions: according to their own characteristics,the enterprises choose to invest in the retail industry;take effective measures to improve the overall performance of the retail industries;promote the development of central and western,narrow the regional difference;promote the coordinated development of regional retail formats.
