Connector includes Pin header and Socket.Its main function is to transmit signal or current.Many types of connector are used in many fields.Thread connection,is old type of connection,are widely used in many fields for a long time.And for the application of large conductor connection,it is mainly used in electric transmission.In the local market,main studies and researches are focus on low cost?mass production stability?mechanical stability and function fulfillment.This paper firstly introduced the basic design rules for connectors?the classifications of connectors and the manufacturing process of connectors,and summarized strength points?disadvantage and the application of all types of the thread connectors especially for the large cable thread connectors.Based on the selection of raw material,heat treatment process,product mechanical structure optimization and cost factors,then developed one new thread frame type connector which can be produced by normal manufacturing process.By adding one special structure to enhance the whole strength of the frame without increasing any cost,and also the tool manufacturing process becomes much easier as well.Took two combinations(different raw material and heat treatment process)to make the samples and took hardness as the reference of measuring the strength of samples,analyzed the metallurgical structure and fixed the concept design,made the prototype,and finally passed the type test.The result shows the new concept not only meets the technical requirement of customer,but also fulfills the cost situation of Chinese market,and it will increase its advantage of the local market.The corresponding details and conclusions as follows:1)Took the reference of existing products and use the FEM software to analyze the structure of existing model and new model,added some optimized area in the existing structure to increase the structure strength of new model.2)Two types of standard samples were built up.One type is made by 20 carbon steel;the other is made by 45 carbon steel.The 20 carbon steel samples were applied with case harden together with quenching and tempering heat treatment process,and 45 carbon steel samples were applied with quenching and tempering heat treatment process.The hardness of both types was measured,and the metallurgical structures of both were analyzed as well.The result shows the mechanical strength of 20 carbon steel samples were increased a lot,but the process of case harden is very complex especially for selecting low capability heat treatment supplier.And if selects high level supplier who can monitor the case harden process very precisely,then the total cost will be increased a lot;and 45 carbon steel samples applied with traditional heat treatment process can meet the technical requirement and pass the type test but with lower cost.
