crustal stress is the undisturbed natural stress existing in the earth's crust that is also called the initial stress of the rock mass, and it also refers to the stress in the earth's body in a broad sense. Therefore, the study of crustal stress become significant that crustal stress is the fundamental force that causes deformation and failure of mining, water conservancy and hydropower, civil engineering, tunnels, highways, military and other underground or open-pit geotechnical engineering.Firstly, the paper introduces the research background and significance of the crustal stress,as well as the domestic and international situation, the causes and influencing factors of the crustal stress.Respectively, including the mantle convection, rock mass gravity, plate boundary stress, tectonic stress, the action of magma intrusion on in-situ stress formation and geological structure, topography and erosion, the mechanical properties of the rock, water and temperature, and its change rule and the stress field of division in our country also have been reported.Secondly, the measurement principle, advantages and disadvantages of several commonly used crustal stress measurement methods were analyzed. The crustal stress measured by hydraulic fracturing method and the rock burst analysis of the measurement results. The basic principle of the method, the composition and installation of the measuring equipment, the theoretical basis for calculation, and the possible encounter in the measurement process were summarized. Then, the rock strength stress ratio between Rc/?max<4 and 4<Rc/?max<7 for the extremely high stress area, high stress area division in the depth range of 400-500 m,according the “Engineering Rock Mass Grading Standard”(GB50218-2014),compared to the vast majority of underground tunneling projects that do not have rock bursts or large deformations during actual excavation in this depth range. In addition, compared the data which collected from several domestic and foreign projects with the standard of rock burst prediction analysis at home, and the criteria was selected according to the characteristics of the industry. Finally, the conclusion was drawn that the application of the measured data was demonstrated by an example of a crustal stress measurement project.
