In recent years, the industrial development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration(BTHUA)has been uneven, and the problem of "big city disease" has been highlighted. It is an important means for the rational distribution of industries and enhance the overall competitiveness of urban agglomerations by understanding the status of industrial development, exploring the direction of industrial development, and in-depth analysis of industrial agglomeration in the geographical space. In this paper, the geographical scope of the BTHUA is selected as the study area.Taking the manufacturing industry in the secondary industry as an example, and adopting the registration data of the Industrial and Commercial Bureau from 2000 to 2013,the paper focus on the industrial agglomeration of BTHUA by following three parts and proposing the policy recommendations.(1)Analyzing the macroscopic form of industrial agglomeration of the BTHUA by introducing the method of central morphology, and using the three elements of the standard deviation ellipse to focus on the agglomeration center and distribution scope of the BTHUA in the manufacturing industry from 2000 to 2013.(2)Conducting multi-scale analysis of industrial agglomeration by using Ripley's K function to calculate the manufacturing agglomeration scales of 13 cities in the BTHUA and using the most significant agglomeration scale as indicators to quantify the intensity of industrial agglomeration.(3)Detecting the location of clustered hotspots and discussing the applicability of the detection methods by combining the cluster intensity index and kernel density method with spatial autocorrelation analysis to detect the location of manufacturing agglomeration hotspots in the BTHUA from 2000 to 2013.From the perspective of agglomeration intensity and agglomeration density, the paper explored the time series development of the manufacturing industry in BTHUA and the change of spatial agglomeration location. The paper compared the applicable scenarios and advantages and disadvantages of the two hot spot detection methods. The research results show that:(1)Industrial agglomeration is mainly located in Beijing,Tianjin,Langfang and other places in the central and southern regions of the BTHUA.From 2000 to 2013,the spatial agglomeration of industrial in both the southeast and northwest directions have increased and reached its strongest level in 2006.(2)The spatial agglomeration of the manufacturing industry in the BTHUA is significant and presents multi-scale features. The agglomeration scale in the south of BTHUA is smaller than that in the north of BTHUA.(3)The location of agglomeration is mainly located in the central of BTHUA.In the BTHUA,a pattern of contiguous development among cities is formed. The industrial pressures of cities such as Beijing and Tianjin have been shared by the surrounding cities and have mainly developed to the south of the urban agglomerations. The industrial distribution within the BTHUA has become increasingly reasonable.(4)Both hotspot detection methods are able to detect the location of industrial agglomeration. The method based on the combination of industrial agglomeration intensity and autocorrelation is used to detect the independent location of aggregation. And the method based on the combination of kernel density and autocorrelation can detect the industrial conglomeration effect between cities and the area of a larger hotspot agglomeration area, which is suitable for industrial agglomeration research under the background of coordinated development of urban groups.
