Objective:Through the survey analyzed the awareness and attitude of transgenic biotechnology among consumers, and the main factors influencing the consumers' awareness and attitude.According to the results and the current situation in China, the paper finally proposes the suggestions, which are about the education and regulation of transgenic technology, providing the scientific references for transgenic technology industry development and strategy. Methods:This study conducted questionnaire survey by using the stratified random sampling method to choose a community and a village for all the 30 cities. This study had sent 3000 family questionnaires, and 2692 questionnaires were validated through the data filtration, the validate rate was 89.7%.The data was inserted as young generation and their parents respectively,so the real data involved 5384.This questionnaire concerned about the focus, knowledge, and safety awareness of transgenic technology. The data was inserted parallelly by Epidata 3.1 software and was analyzed by SPSS 19.0 software.Results:5384 participants from 2692 families are included in this paper's analysis.1.The concern of the transgenic biotechnology.Generally, there were 2213(41.1%)concerned about it,who included the great and relative answers, were more than one third of the whole. And for the concern of the labeling of genetically modified food, the result showed that the participant who chose “no labeling” were more than others(52.7%).2.Knowledge about the transgenic biotechnology. The participants who had less knowledge about it,including relative less and none answers, were 1194(24.4%),and who were not sure were 2165(44.1%).Through the chi-square test, the paper believed that the participants with different gender, generation, average monthly income level, food expense rate were statistically different in the knowledge about the transgenic biotechnology. And the multivariate regression analysis showed that the economic condition was the main influencing factors and had the positive relations with the knowledge level.3.Attitude towards the safety of transgenic biotechnology. Most of the participants had more negative and conserved attitude towards the transgenic biotechnology, and the participants who thought it was safe took 62.4% of the whole. With the chi-square test, the result showed that the participants with different gender, residency, generation, average monthly income level, food expense rate were statistically different in their attitude towards the safety of transgenic biotechnology. The further multivariate regression analysis showed that the education level and residency were the main influencing factors.4.The intergenerational difference. For knowledge, the main influencing factors for the young generation were average monthly income level, gender, and educational level, and for the elder generation were average monthly income level and educational level. For attitude, the main influencing factor for the young generation was educational level, and for the elder generation were residency and educational level. Conclusion:The study found that, the participants were highly concerned about the transgenic biotechnology and with low knowledge level.Given the results, the paper held thatthe later education and publicization should pay more attention to people with different residency, education level, and generation.Beside this, the regulation of transgenic biotechnology innovation and commercialization, laws and guidelines, mass media information communication had lots of flaws and problems. The relative administrations should clear their responsibilities, establish more rational and strict regulations and laws, and strengthen the education and publicization among the consumers, finally providing a good, sustainable, healthy social atmosphere, regulation mechanism, operation system for the transgenic industry.
