Cervical spine is one important part of the human body and bone structure. It can bear the movement of head and protect blood vessels and nerves into and out of the skull, thus it is a significant guarantee for normal human life. With the development of computer simulation technology and in-depth study of the finite element method, the two have been applied into the field of cross-application of biomechanics.Currently, the computer technology and finite element method can be applied into the cervical spine biomechanical analysis. This paper studies the cervical spine biomechanics with the computer finite element analysis method.Three-dimensional model of the human cervical spine with a high degree of simulation is a basic condition of the cervical spine biomechanical analysis. Thus, before the finite element biomechanical analysis,an authentic finite element model of the cervical spine should be developed.Firstly, the physical structure and mechanical properties of the vertebral body and the intervertebral discs of the cervical spine are discussed. Then,by using Mimics software to extract cervical bone tissue from CT medical images, the paper generates the corresponding cervical 3D models and uses the Boolean calculation to build 3D model of intervertebral disc.Meanwhile, the generated model is optimized with the reverse engineering software Geomagic Studio software to fit the structure of the cervical spine. After that, the model is imported into Solidwork to optimize and sew each surface to create the cervical vertebra model. Then, the model of vertebral body and disc are assembled with Solidwork. After selecting the appropriate material coefficients based on the mechanical properties and mechanical models of the cervical spine, the paper uses the ANSYS software and the corresponding material properties to verify the validity of the model. Finally, using the validated finite element three-dimensional model of the whole cervical spine,it makes the simulation analysis of flexion, lateral bending, rotation, and demonstrate the relevant data consistent with real experiment. This paper creates the model three-dimensional finite element model of the whole cervical spine with the assembly vertebral body and joint structure. The characteristics of the model is closer to the real cervical spine, with a high degree of simulation performance. The three dimensional finite element model of cervical spine and related mechanical analysis in this paper provides a more accurate model and reference for further study of cervical spine model and associated analysis.
