Human mobility reflects the complex human-land relationship, provides a unique perspective for understanding urban space from a micro perspective, and is of great significance to urban planning, traffic forecasting and so on.Commuting is the main form of urban individual mobility and the basic element of urban residents’life. In recent years, the separation of workplace and residence caused by the aggravation of urban space reconstruction has made long-term commuting more and more common.Research shows that long-term commuting will lead to traffic congestion, environmental pollution and the decline of residents’quality of life.Understanding and grasping the characteristics and formation mechanism of commuting is conducive to solving the above problems, and also provides useful references for relevant policies and project evaluation,jobs-housing optimization, urban spatial structure research, etc.Based on the mobile signaling data of Wuhan, this paper extracts the urban commuting flow, and reveals the spatial pattern of urban commuting flow from three levels:point, line and polygon, using spatial analysis, network analysis and flow pattern analysis.Based on the multi-factor extended gravity model,multi-regression analysis is carried out to verify the applicability of gravity model in the urban internal scale, and analyze the formation mechanism of urban commuting flow combined with the theory of population flow and migration. The main findings are as follows:(1)The quantity distribution of commuting flow is not uniform.Commuting are concentrated only in a few blocks, while a small amount of high-value commuting flow contributes most of the total commuting flow in the study area.(2)The spatial patterns of commuting flow include distance-decay,axial characteristics and zoning.Commuting flow decreases with distance increasing, and commuters mainly flow to neighboring blocks and nearby employment centers;Commuting flow has global axial characteristics, forming some commuting corrmdors that gather a large number of commuters and mostly distribute along geographical barriers and important transportation facilities;Commuting flow has obvious zoning phenomenon, and blocks have formed a stable 4-zoning structure and 2-zoning structure. The commuting connections within the zone are denser than those between zones.(3)The formation of commuting flow is the result of the interaction of multiple forces, including the driving force of the high number of resident population in the commuting origins, the pulling force of the large number of employment opportunities in the destinations(these two forces are also affected by factors such as spatial proximity, cultural differences and land use),and the resistance caused by traffic obstruction.
