Chongyi is an important part of the Cathaysia block in the east of South China. It is located at the intersection of Hunan,Jiangxi and Guangdong, and belongs to the caledonian fold system in south China.Recent years, the sedimentary structure of the lower Paleozoic in the eastern part of south China has attracted wide attention. The research focuses on the origin direction of species in lower Paleozoic-devonian sedimentary system and the background differences in the area of origin of species, and on the disputes about the stratigraphic age division and tectonic environment of the lower Paleozoic. In this paper, sedimentological method is used to analyze the lower Paleozoic-devonian sediment source and tectonic environment of the extensive Paleozoic strata in Chongyi area,so as to reunderstand the tectonic evolution of the western margin of Cathaysia. This study based on field geological observation, analysis the research object-devonian system of lower palaeozoic era, sedimentary characteristics through clastic composition statistics, characteristics of heavy mineral analysis, whole rock geochemical analysis, the main trace sediment source analysis methods, such as Zircon U-Pb chronology and Hf isotope analysis, under the integrated research of palaeozoic group-devonian system information source and tectonic setting. The Paleozoic-devonian sedimentary sequence under the research object shows that the water body gradually becomes shallower from Cambrian to Silurian, the sedimentary environment of Cambrian is deep-sea turbidite fan,the Ordovician is the transition environment from deep-sea to subdeep-sea bottom turbidite fan,the Silurian is the coastal sedimentary environment, and the Devonian is mainly the continental sedimentary environment.
