The research aims to find out the population distribution of Temminck's tragopan(Tragopan temminckii)in the eastern side of the Wuling Mountains. From October 2018 to October 2019,the author set 90 infrared cameras to monitor the Temminck's tragopan in the Qizimeishan National Nature Reserve and the Badagongshan National Nature Reserve, both of which are the representative protected areas of the eastern side of the Wuling Mountains.Data collected include the spot, ecological environment and altitude range of the habitat of Temminck's tragopan, which contributes to the future studies of the reserves. The results are as follows:1.30 infrared cameras were orderly placed in the Qizimeishan National Nature Reserve in 35 different spots with a total working time of 10650 days.We obtained 1624 valid individual photos of animals. The Temminck's tragopan occupied 9 of the spots, which is 25.71%of the total. The amount of photos of the species is 122,which is 7.51%of the total;60 cameras were orderly placed in the Badagongshan National Nature Reserve in 60 different spots, with a total working time of 19800 days.We obtained 3748 valid individual photos of animals. The Temminck's tragopan occupied 16 of the spots, which is 26.67%of the total.Among the 16 spots.2.The Temminck's tragopan in the Qizimeishan Reserve is mainly distributed in the northern area, which is the core area of the research. In the southern experimental area and the buffer zone, the Temminck's tragopan is significantly less. While in the Badagongshan Reserve, the bird mainly habitats in the Doupeng Mountain in the west, and appears lesser in the Tianping Mountain in the east and much lesser in the middle Chinese fir forest area.3.The Temminck's tragopan is spotted to have wintery seasonal migration, from Badagongshan Reserve to the Qizimeishan Reserve. They live until the arrival of the breeding season, then return to the Badagongshan Reserve for mating and breeding.4.The Temminck's tragopan in the east side of the Wuling Mountains is mainly distributed in the altitude range of 1400—1800m.In winter the birds would migrate 200m towards the lower area.5.The Temminck's tragopan in the east side of the Wuling Mountains mainly habitats in the coniferous and broad—leaved mixed forests, evergreen deciduous broad—leaved mixed forests, and evergreen bamboo shrubs, with less population in the evergreen broad-leaved forest and the deciduous broad-leaved forest.
