Research On The Scientific Assessment Dispute About String Theory From The Paradigm Perspective

As an important branch of modern theoretical physics,string theory not only reconciles the contradiction between general relativity and quantum mechanics,but also provides a theoretical framework that can unify all substances and their interactions in nature in principle.However,although physicists have invested a lot of energy in the study of string theory for more than 40 years,string theory has not been confirmed empirically and has not developed into a complete form.Based on this situation,the scientific status of string theory is in a heated debate.On the one hand,the advocates of string theory have extremely strong confidence in this theory,and think that string theory is the ultimate grand unified theory pursued by physicists.On the other hand,the critics of string theory question the reliability of string theory as a scientific theory.They believe that the belief in science must be based on the objective evaluation of experience,thus rejecting string theory from scientific knowledge.Through a detailed study of this dispute,this paper attempts to interpret it with the differences between two paradigms,and points out that the main differences of this paradigm do not occur at the level of specific theoretical concepts,but at the more basic level of the definition and assessment of scientific theories.The paper has the following structure:The first chapter discusses the development of string theory and the current research situation of high energy physics from the perspective of the history of science.At the same time,by analyzing the core issues of the dispute and the views of key figures,this paper introduces the concept of paradigm to interpret the nature of the dispute,and points out that the proposal and development of string theory presupposes a new paradigm of scientific evaluation,which has deviated from the traditional paradigm in some aspects.The second chapter focuses on the formation foundation and main connotation of the new scientific assessment paradigm of string theory.Due to the new characteristics of the current theory,the traditional scientific assessment paradigm shows great limitations,which leads to the rise of string theory assessment paradigm.Compared with the traditional scientific assessment paradigm,string theory assessment paradigm has greatly changed the definition standard of scientific theory,which also constitutes the main connotation of string theory paradigm.In addition,due to the incommensurability between the two paradigms,the two paradigms are in conflict.The third chapter makes a philosophical reflection on the scientific assessment dispute of string theory as a whole.First of all,it points out that the dispute itself is also a dispute about the definition of science,so we need to rethink the development mode of contemporary science.Secondly,the author thinks about the future development of this new paradigm,and points out that the conditions for paradigm transformation depends on its ability to solve problems in the future and the exploration and improvement of string theory community.The last part is conclusion,which is put forward on the basis of summarizing the whole paper.At present,we seem to be on the eve of a scientific revolution,which is bound to come at the same time as the change of philosophy.
