As the representative of Ecological Marxism,William Leiss’ s criticism of“controlling nature” builds a bridge between the social criticism of Frankfurter Schule and the ecological criticism of Ecological Marxism. This article mainly uses literature analysis, historical analysis and comparative research.First, systematically excavate its theoretical origin from the perspective of environmental philosophy and the social background of William Leiss’ s though of “controlling nature”.Secondly, further research William Leiss’ s ecological criticism of “controlling nature” and capitalist society from three philosophical critical perspectives:history, technological rationality and ideology. On this basis, taking Marxist ecological philosophy as the evaluative standard, this article points out the positive significance of William Leiss’ s thought of“controlling nature”--broadening the perspective of social consciousness in the analysis of the causes of ecological crisis, deepening the cognition of the application of technology under the capitalist system, revealing the ideological function of“controlling nature”,and the negative significance of it--the improper analysis of the origin and status of ecological crisis,The biased cognitive of technological alienation and function, the Utopian scheme of solving the ecological crisis. Finally, taking Marxist Ecological Philosophy as the guiding ideology, this paper explores the enlightenment of William Leiss’ s thought of “controlling nature” with current ecological dilemma--guiding the transformation of values from “controlling nature” to“respecting nature”,coordinating the freedom of human beings and the limit of nature in the practice of production and life, reconstructing technical ethics to pursue the liberation of human and nature.
