The epoxy-modified acryliate composite emulsion combines the advantages of epoxy resin with that of acrylic resin.The composite material has excellent adhesion,chemical and corrosion resistance,outdoor resistance and gloss and colour retention.Using water instead of organic solvent as dispersed medium,it reduces the environment pollution and production cost.Due to these advantages mentioned above,it presents a broad application potential in the field of architectural coatings,metal anti-corrosion coatings.First,the epoxy acrylate was synthesized by esterification reaction between epoxy resin and acrylic acid in the present of catalyst in organic solvent(reactive monomer as the dispersed medium).Second,the double bonds of epoxy acrylate as active reaction site,the epoxy-modified acryliate composite latex was synthesized by the seed emulsion polymerization.The effect of reaction conditions on esterification has been discussed.The results showed that reaction temperature is 110?,reaction time is 2 h,the dosage of catalyst is 0.3%of total monomer weight.The production is golden and clean with the85%conversion of acrylic acid.The structure of the epoxy acrylate were analyzed via FT-IR and ~1H-NMR spectroscopy.The results showed that the acrylic acid had been introduced into epoxy resin bone by esterification.The effects of reaction conditions on polymerization have been studied.The results showed that the latex is stabile,the monomer conversion is 99.7%,grafting efficiency is more than 87.5%when the amount of emulsifier is 5.3%of total monomer weight,the ratio of MS-1/OP-10 is 2:1,the dosage of initiator is 0.6%of the total monomer weight,polymerization temperature is 85?.The structure of the graft copolymer were analyzed via FT-IR,laser particle size analyzer,TEM,DSC.The results showed that The latex particles were uniform spherical with a diameter of about 100 nm~130 nm without adherence.The epoxy-modified acryliate composite material has a perfect consistency.The composite latex was applied into architectural coating.The effect of the amount of epoxy resin,reactive emulsifier,siloxane monomer on film properties has been discussed.The results showed that the addition of 1.0%reactive emulsifier and 1.5%siloxane monomer can obviously enhance water resistance,contaminates resistance and aging resistance of the coating when keeping the amount of emulsifier unchanged.The test results showed that the water resistance is 100 h,the contaminates resistance is less than8%,the scrub resistance is more than 2000,the ading resistance is 600 h without any flaw.The composite latex was applied into metal anti-corrosion coatings.The effect of the amount of epoxy resin,acrylic acid and the acrylicamide as well as the conditions of solidification and the ratio of the soft and hard monomer has been discussed.The results showed that the film has excellent propeties when the curing temperature is 140?,the curing time is 2.5 h,the ratio of soft and hard monomer is 1:2.5,the dosage of epoxy resin,acrylic acid and the acrylicamide is 18%,5.0%,0.5%~1.0%of the total monomer weight,respectively.The FT-IR result showed that the film has completely curing.The DMA result showed that the tan?Max was 2.19 and the corresponding temperature range is about47.12?,which implied that the epoxy-modified acryliate composite material had good damping properties.
