Tamarind is a kind of fruit and and is widely planted in the south of China.Tamarind kernel polysaccharide?TKP?is a kind neutral polysaccharide which is extracted from the tamarind seed endosperm.It has good acid resistance,heat resistance,salt tolerance,freezing and thawing resistance.Tamarind kernel polysaccharide derivitives was prepared and its properties and application were investigated in this paper.Firstly,cationic tamarind kernel polysaccharide was prepared through cationic modification reaction.The influence factors affecting reaction were studied and the optimum synthesis process were determined.DS of cationic tamarind kernel polysaccharide was up to 0.66.The weight increasing rate was 89%,and the light transmission rate of 2%and 1%solution were 88.4%and 99.5%,respectively.Secondly,crosslinked cationic tamarind kernel polysaccharide with DS 0.50,0.61 and 0.66 were prepared using epichlorohydrin as crosslinking agent.The behavior of crosslinked cationic tamarind kernel polysaccharide adsorb Cr?VI?ions from the aqueous solutions was explored.The results showed that the adsorption capacity of CCTKP adsorb Cr?VI?ions was 38.96mg/g,which was under the condition that solution pH was 4,Cr?VI?initial concentration was 50mg/L,adorption agent for 30mg,adsorption time was 20min and adsorption temperature was 25?.The process was exothermal and low temperature was favourable for adsorption through thermodynamic analysis.Thirdly,hydroxypropyl tamarind kernel polysaccharide was prepared by tamarind kernel polysaccharide with epoxy propane and the optimum synthesis process were determined.The light transmission of 1%solution was up to 84%,the apparent viscosity was 65mPa·s and the water insoluble matter content was only 7.1%.It showed that the molecular structure of tamarind gum introduced hydroxypropyl groups through FTIR and 13C-NMR spectrum analysis.Finally,Hydroxypropyl cationic tamarind kernel polysaccharide was prepared,the amount of NaOH and the ratio of etherification agent were determined.The light transmission of 2%solution was 89%,the water insoluble matter content was 6.9%.The aqueous solution of hydroxypropyl cationic tamarind kernel polysaccharide has good environmental stability and salt tolerance through testing apparent viscosity.
