Diatomite is a kind of important natural mineral raw material,it has a lot of advantages,such as full of micro-porous,high adsorbability,good stability,light weight and non-poisonous.Diatomite can be used to make a lot of kind of materials,building material is one of those and it is heat retaining,heat-insulated and nonflammable,it also can adjust air humidity and make the room air clean.Therefore,it has a great meaning to produce building material using diatomite.Diatomite resource is rich in China,it is the second in the world.But almost all the diatomite resources in our country are low quality,and the application of diatomite in China is far behind the world,so how to use these low quality diatomite has great realistic significance to our society,it is also the main ideal for this paper.In this topic,second level diatomite and third level diatoimte from Jilin province are used to make bricks,in the test,single factor test method is used,TiO2 and tourmaline are used as additives to make diatomite bricks has other functions,such as light degradation or release oxygen negative-ion.The effects of duration of grinding of raw material,water content of the powders,binder content of the moulding body,compression molding process,calcination temperature and calcination time on mechanical property,water absorption,photocatalytic performance and oxygen negative-ion content of diatomite brick are studied.The results show that as the raw material is grind in ball grinding mill for 10 min,the water content in the powder is 10%,water-glass(used as binder)content is 1%,briquetting pressure is 2.5MPa,pressuring time is 25s,dehydration temperature is 105?,dehydration time is 30min,and the calcination temperature of 900? is the best manufacture process of diatomite brick.As the calcination temperature is 900 ?,the flexural strength of diatomite bricks made by second level diatomite and third diatomite are 8.5MPa and 7.2MPa respectively,and the water absorption of that are 24%and 27%respectively.Light degradation test shows that as TiO2 is used as photocatalyst,as the degradation time is 2h,the degradation rate of diatomite bricks for methylene-blue solution of both level diatomites are all above 40%,and of which,the degradation rate of second level diatomite's brick is bigger than that of third leve diatomite brick's.As the TiO2 content is 10%,the degradation rate reaches the maximum,which is 42.7%.Diatmite brick has the ability of releasing oxygen negative-ion as the tourmaline is used,the dehydration effect of diatomite bricks for malachite green solution of second level diatomite is better than that of third level diatomite brick's.As tourmaline content is 10%,the dehydration effect reaches the maximum,which is 38.7%.
