Along with the rapid economic growth of China, people pursue higherquality of life, one of which is that people pay more attention to the safety ofindoor environment. In September of2011, World Health Organization haspublished a report of′Indoor Air Pollution and Healthμ, in whichformaldehyde, benzene, toluene, total volatile organic compound (TVOC),and other poisonous gases were said to be the major sources of indoor airpollution. It also said that as one of the most important indoor pollutant, formaldehyde could directly damage human body. This paper is aimed of measuring and predicting of indoor formaldehydeand TVOC diffusion content, respectively. The indoor diffusion model ofabove pollutants is also further discussed. A environmental test chambermethod together with computer simulation technology was introduced in thisresearch. A small indoor air quality testing chamber, with independentintellectual property rights, was developed to test the diffusion curve offormaldehyde and TVOC on simulated building materials, respectively. The results shows that coatings, adhesives, and other wet building materials couldreach stable emission equilibrium in a short time, but the containmentsemission decay rate are also fast. Nevertheless, floor, wall paper, and otherdry building materials require more time to reaching this equilibrium point, while cupboard plate and other edge treated dry building materials requirelongest time to reach it.Based on above results, a computer numerical model of indoor airquality was further developed, in which a typical amount of buildingmaterials needed from a sample house was seriously considered. The amountof total emissions of formaldehyde and TVOC in a typical residential sampleroom were calculated based on the model, which matched with the valuesmeasured in a real room very well. This simulation model is able to predictthe distributions of indoor air pollutants well. And it might help the design ofbetter indoor decoration and indoor air quality, and it could also help tosupport a scientific choosing of the decorating materials and to predict thequality of indoor engineering.
