Nylon is the world's first synthetic fiber synthesized by Dupont and it was first used in the textile industry.Now a day,Nylon has a very wide range of applications and research,its production is also among the Top Five general engineering plastics.Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 are two of the most important types of polyamide resin,which is an indispensable material in our life.The modification of nylon has always been a hot topic in the field of polymer materials,which makes the nylon industry a rapid development.Up to now,each aspect of the properties of nylon has been enhanced and improved through modification.However,there is a gap between domestic and foreign nylon production and modification technology.Relevant technologies are in the hands of large foreign companies,and domestic nylon raw materials,modifiers and high-performance nylon have long been dependent on imports.Low temperature toughening nylon is a direction of nylon modification,which aims to expand nylon's application and improve nylon toughness both at low temperature.Therefore,the elastomer toughening agent of polyolefin grafted maleic anhydride was prepared by Melt extrusion method,and the effect of graft rate on toughening agent was compared.Then,application of the best performance toughening agent in Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 is studied,and a comprehensive comparison is made between the Nylon low temperature toughening agent and Dupont N493.The results show that the toughness of Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 under low temperature condition is obviously improved by self-made toughening agent,and the toughening effect was slightly better than Dupont N493.The notch impact strength of the Nylon 6 is increased by 10 times when the addition is 20%,and it still has a good impact strength at-30 °C.Therefore,the self-made toughening agent can solve the brittleness of nylon at low temperature in some point,and can also replace Dupont N493 as nylon low temperature toughening agent,which has commercial value.
