Data Acquisition And Comparative Analysis Of Basic Material Properties Of Eight Less Well-known Bamboo Species In China

In this paper,8 kinds of bamboos collected from the International Bamboo and Rattan Research Center's Taiping Experimental Base in Anhui Province were taken as the research object.And their stem morphology,fiber morphology,chemical and physico-mechanical properties were quantitatively tested to find the axial variation of various properties.Different kinds of species were compared and analyzed to provide source data for the construction of the database.At the same time,some research gaps in the bamboo material properties were filled to provide a scientific basis for its efficient and reasonable utilization.Research shows:(1)Among the 8 species of bamboo,the largest average eyebrow diameter is O.sulcatum(55.91 mm),and the smallest is C.neopurpurea(12.55 mm).The largest average wall thickness is O.sulcatum(6.25 mm),and the smallest is P.japonica(2.46 mm).The longest average internodes is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(50.93 cm),the shortest is C.neopurpurea(12.07 cm).(2)The lengths of the 8 kinds of bamboo fibers are mainly distributed between 900 and 1600 ?m.The largest average fiber length is P.kwangsiensis(1732.89 ?m),and the shortest is P.s nidularia(1327.87 ?m).All of them belong to medium-length fibers.The largest average fiber width is C.neopurpurea(15.32 ?m),and the shortest is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(11.45 ?m).The largest average fiber aspect ratio is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(149.76),and the smallest is P.nidularia(102.69).The 8 kinds of bamboo are all good raw materials for paper making.Among the 8 species of bamboo,the length of the fiber basically shows that the base and the tip are shorter,and the middle is longer;the width of the fiber basically shows that the middle and the tip are shorter,and the base is longer;the aspect ratio of the fiber basically shows that the tip is shorter,and the base and the tip are longer.Analysis of variance showed that bamboo species and their parts have significant effects on fiber morphology.Multiple comparison analyses showed that the differences in fiber morphology between different bamboo species are also significant.(3)Among the 8 species of bamboo,the largest average content of holocellulose is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(77.46%),and the lowest is P.prominens(72.51%).The largest average ?-cellulose content is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(49.44%),and the smallest is P.prominens(41.36%).The largest average acid-insoluble lignin content is O.sulcatum(23.21%),the smallest is P.japonica(20.24%).The highest average acid-soluble lignin content is P.prominens(1.69%),and the smallest is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(1.09%).The highest average alcohol benzene extractive content is P.kwangsiensis(3.60%),and the smallest is P.nidularia(2.11%).The largest average pentosan content is P.kwangsiensis(20.05%),and the smallest is P.japonica(16.67%).Among the 8 species of bamboo,P.kwangsiensis and O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.showed similar trends in the three chemical components of holocellulose,?-cellulose and benzene alcohol extracts,of which both holocellulose and ?-cellulose all showed a lower content in the base and the tip,and the content in the middle is higher,but the performance of benzene alcohol extracts is opposite to that of the former;the chemical compositions of other bamboo species are different.Analysis of variance showed that the bamboo species and their parts have significant effects on the chemical composition.Multiple comparison analysis showed that the differences in chemical composition between different bamboo species are obvious.According to the requirements of papermaking raw materials,the 8 kinds of bamboo have higher contents of holocellulose and ?-cellulose,and lower content of lignin and extracts.They are suitable as excellent papermaking raw materials,but P.kwangsiensis and O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.are superior other bamboo species.(4)Among the 8 species of bamboo,the largest basic density,air-dry density and oven-dried density are all O.sulcatum,and the smallest basic density is P.propinqua,and the smallest air-dry density and oven-dried density are all P.nidularia.Whether it is in a air-dry or oven-dried state,the dry shrinkage rates and the dry shrinkage coefficient of the 8 types of bamboo all exhibited: radial> chord> longitudinal.At the same time,in addition to the longitudinal shrinkage rates,the dry shrinkage rate of the 8 types of bamboo is basically represented: O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.>P.prominens>P.nidularia>P.propinqua> C.neopurpurea>P.japonica>P.kwangsiensis>O.sulcatum.However,the dry shrinkage coefficient is basically represented: O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.>P.prominens >P.nidularia> C.neopurpurea >P.propinqua >P.kwangsiensis >P.japonica >O.sulcatum.Variance analysis showed that bamboo species have significant effects on air-dry density,oven-dried density,radial shrinkage coefficient,stringwise shrinkage coefficient,volumetric shrinkage coefficient,radial and volumetric shrinkage,and oven-dried chord shrinkage.However,there is no significant effect on the basic density,air-dry chord shrinkage,longitudinal shrinkage coefficient and longitudinal shrinkage.Multiple comparison analysis showed that the physical properties of different bamboo species are significantly different.(5)Due to the wall thickness of P.japonica and C.neopurpurea was too thin and did not reach the mechanical test dimension,their mechanical parameters were not tested.The other 6 species of bamboo,the largest average straight grain tensile strength is P.kwangsiensis(268.02 MPa),and the lowest is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(158.70 MPa).The largest average flexural modulus is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(14.62 GPa),and the lowest is P.prominens(10.07 GPa).The largest average bending strength is P.kwangsiensis(235.45 MPa),and the smallest is P.nidularia(146.38 MPa).The largest average straight grain compressive strength is O.lubricum(Wen)Keng f.(93.34 MPa),and the smallest is O.sulcatum(58.77 MPa).The largest average straight grain shear strength is P.propinqua(21.87 MPa),and the smallest is O.sulcatum(15.61 MPa).In addition to the straight grain tensile strength,the analysis of variance showed that the bamboo species have significant effects on the flexural modulus,bending strength,straight grain compressive strength,and straight grain shear strength.Multiple comparison analysis showed significant differences in mechanical properties between different bamboo species.Among the 8 species of bamboo,O.sulcatum,P.kwangsiensis,and P.propinqua are more suitable as structural materials than other types of bamboo.
