Epoxy is widely used to make epoxy insulator in recent years,due to its low shrinkage and high machinability during processing,good mechanical properties and excellent dielectric properties of the curing products.The epoxy insulator should have certain mechanical properties and thermal stability,because it will be used to seal the SF6,support the metal pole and heat conduction in gas insulated transmission line.In order to meet this requirement,a large amount of micron Al2O3 particles are added to epoxy.But the phenomenon of charge accumulation will occur in the long run.When charge approaches a level that bring about surface flashover,it can cause the insulator breakdown and damage to the operation of the power transmission line.In this paper,we mainly studied how to enhance the insulating properties of the epoxy.First,the effect of surface modification of micron Al2O3 particles on the insulating properties of epoxy composite was studied.The surface polarity of micron Al2O3 particles was reduced after modification.The insulating properties of epoxy composites test shows that the volume resistivity,breakdown strength and dielectric properties of micron Al2O3/epoxy composites were improved after the modification.The main causes to enhance the insulating properties of epoxy composites is that the micron Al2O3 particles increase the depth of charge traps in the composites after modification.Then,the effect of different nanoparticles on the insulating properties of epoxy was studied.The conclusions are as follows,the C60 nanoparticles have a better effect on the insulating of epoxy than Al2O3 nanoparticles under low content.The Al nanoparticles can also enhance the insulating properties of epoxy due to the coulomb blocking effect.Finally,we added C60 nanoparticles into the commercial insulator system,and we found that the insulating properties of the composites were improved,but it was not obvious as the neat epoxy system.In addition,the mechanical properties of epoxy composites have not changed so much.
