Compounds with weak bonds decompose to produce free radicals under heat, free radicals can initiate polymerization of vinylic monomers or combine with other free radicals. In anion polymerization method,we introduce weak bonds to styrene monomers or polymers,it can meet the requirements of anionic polymerization, and can achieve functionalization without the introduction of heteroatoms as well. This provides an effective method for the synthesis of polymers with complex structures and the modification of polymer materials. In this paper,we investigated the free radical-initiating activity of the carbon-carbon weak bond in 1,1,1,2-tetraphenylethane(TEPE)and synthesized a styrene monomer-p-(2,2,2-triphenylethyl)styrene(TPES)with the same weak bond structure,we studied the anionic polymerization behavior of TPES and synthesized several polymers with weak bond structures, and we prepared carbon black reinforced rubber with good dispersibility, strong interface effect and polar modified thermoplastic elastomer.(1)Design and synthesis of p-(2,2,2-triphenylethyl)styrene(TPES)and its anionic polymerization.First we conducted polymerization of methyl methacrylate(MMA)with TEPE as initiator, study the influence of temperature, time and concentration ratio on polymerization, the results show that raising temperature can promote decomposition of TEPE,extending the reaction time, the molecular weight of the polymer increases with increase of the conversion rate, increasing the concentration of TEPE does no help to polymerization but results in lower efficiency. After that,we studied the anionic homopolymerization and copolymerization behavior of TPES,the results show that TPES and its homopolymer PTPES are poorly soluble in cyclohexane, cyclohexane and tetrahydrofuran mixed solvents provide a better solubility for TPES and PTPES,TPES have mutual initiation activity with styrene and butadiene, can be copolymerized to obtain block and random copolymers with uniform composition and distribution.(2)The synthesis of functionalized polymerized Styrene Butadiene Rubber with weak bonds and its processing properties.TPES copolymerized with styrene and butadiene to synthesize fuctionalized styrene-butadiene rubber(SBTR)with different TPES content in a polymerizer, the content of TPES can be controlled by the mass ratio of monomers. We studied the effect of addition of TPES on the properties of carbon black reinforced SBTR vulcanizates, the results show that with the increase of TPES content, glass transition temperature of SBTR was increased, the value of tan? at 0? increases to above 1.2,the value of tan? at 60 ? reduced to 0.12.(3)Polarization of elastomers with weak bonds.TPES copolymerized with styrene and butadiene to synthesize block copolymers with terminally weak bonds SBT and SEBT,and triggered MMA grafting at the end of chain,we studied the effect of reactivity of SBT and SEBT with MMA and the effect of polar grafting on performance.the results show that the temperature increased from 110? to 140?,and the grafting rate increased from 0.36%to 85.9%,the content of MMA increased from 0 to 82.6%,and the water contact angle decreased from 100.8° on the left and 99.0° on the right to 48° on the left and 48° on the right, polar modification effect is obvious.
