Recycling and reuse of automotive have elicited global attention to the increasing number of end-of-life vehicles. With the increasing number of the discarded vehicles, many of the discarded plastics will do harm to the environment. However, there were less research had been done to recycle the plastics. Therefore, the research of highvoltage triboelectrostatic separation is expected to promote the development of the recycling and reuse of automotive. Therefore, the research object was the discarded passenger vehicle. The researches of triboelectrostatic separation and trajectory of the plastics were conducted. The primary researches in this paper are as follows:1.Based on the theory of triboelectrification,a collision model was set up,the model showed that the surface and interior of the plastic will carry a lot of charges after friction, and the quantity of charges depends on the surface level of the plastic.A physical model of triboelectrostatic separation was set up to determine the duration of charge and discharge. In order to simulate the trajectory of the plastic in the separation chamber,a kinetic model was established thereafter.2.COMSOL was used to simulate the experimental parameters and the trajectory of PP/PU,PP/PA,and PP/ABS plastic mixture in the separation chamber. The simulation showed that charges and density of the plastic were primary factors influenced the trajectory of the plastic during the triboelectrostatic separation.3.Based on the single-factor experiment, the discarded plastics used in vehicle, such as PP,ABS,PU,PA,PVC,and PE were carried into the two-stage high-voltage triboelectrostatic separation. The optimal parameters for each separation were determined by adjusting the experimental parameters. The results found that PVC can always be separated from the mixture at first, which is because PVC always charged negatively after rubbing with other plastics;the result of the separation of PP/PE plastic mixture was poor, which is because of the triboelectric series and the humid environment. In conclusion, the triboelectrostatic separation was conducted to separate the plastic mixture, and the trajectory of the plastics in the separation chamber was simulated. The experimental results were significant for recycling and reuse of the discarded plastic used in the passenger vehicle.
