High-silica glasses are famous for outstanding optical properties,physical properties and chemical stability.Combined with the excellent properties of high silica glass and the unique luminescence properties of rare earth ions,the scintillation glasses with high silica glass as substrate carrier have been brought up which exhibit great potential in high energy particle detection.Glass is usually prepared by high-temperature melting method.However,rare earth polymers tends to cluster during the melting process,which reduce the luminescence.In order to solve the problem of rare-earth ion clusters,using the method of impregnating a rare earth ion solution into a porous glass and sintering at a high temperature in a reducing atmosphere,a high silica glass with excellent scintillation performance is prepared.The experiments to research the factors affecting on glass integrity were designed with control variate method to get the suitable preparation parameter.Three different kinds of samples doped with Ce3+,Tb3+and Ce3+/Tb3+co-doped have been prepared.What's more,the properties of the three kinds of sample have been measured,such as density,rare earth doping amount,emission and excitation spectra,transmittance and absorption spectra,cathodoluminescence?CL?spectra and decay time.The result shows:The density increase with the rare earth ions doping amount increasing.The transmittance of these glasses is highest up to 85%in the visible light region.The intensity of the co-doped glasses is 10 times higher than the doped ones under the excitation of 308 nm.The CL spectra shows an excellent scintillating properties of this three kind of samples.Besides,the lifetime of the co-doped samples is much shorter than the Tb3+doped ones because the energy of Ce3+ions has been sensitized the intensity of Tb3+ions.Futhermore,the optimal doping concentration is 0.2 mol/LTb3+0.2 mol/LCe3+.
