At present,the education sector is vigorously promoting the school-based curriculum to meet the different learning needs of students.Different schools developed a lot of different school-based curriculums that meet the needs of students’ personality development or local economic development.A great many students of the vocational high school which the author works in are majoring in cooking.Most students take internship in five-star hotels in Hangzhou.G20 has been held in Hangzhou,and the 2022 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou,too.Catering industry is in urgent need of professional and technical talents who also have outstanding language skills and creative ability.Students with proficiency in cooking English will be more successful in their future careers.In order to cultivate excellent compound talents for five-star hotels in Hangzhou,we developed school-based curriculum Cooking English.This thesis is aimed at several prominent problems in the teaching practice of the school-based curriculum Cooking English.The problems are as follows: the current teaching materials are too difficult for the students of our school;the contents of the current teaching materials do not match the students’ cognitive learning rules;the activities of the current teaching materials cannot meet the psychological needs of students;the contents of the current teaching materials do not meet the professional needs of students.The author proposed to develop school-based curriculum based on the characteristics and needs of the students and their occupations.The author also developed the school-based textbook Cooking English according to the task design principles of the Task-based Language Teaching Approach.This thesis mainly focuses on the strategies of textbook development and teaching practice by using this textbook.The author used three strategies to solve the three major problems in the development of teaching materials.The strategies are as follows: designing learning tasks based on learning characteristics;arranging the tasks based on the cognitive rules;choosing teaching contents based on the professional needs.In this thesis,a large number of feedback data from the teaching practice were gathered and analyzed and the evaluation of the textbook was given by experts in industry and teaching materials writing in order to prove the practicality and effectiveness of this school-based textbook.The development and practice of the textbook solved the problems in school-based curriculum teaching,improved the culinary students’ interest in cooking English learning and their ability to use language to do things,which may lay a solid foundation for their future career development.
