The hemp fiber is famous for moisture absorption and breathability, bacteriostatic and antimildew,anti-ultraviolet and anti-static properties. It is an ecological natural functional fiber and is a hot spot in current fiber researches.Chinese hemp textile products are extremely strong and durable and comfortable to wear. However, hemp fiber has poor fineness and length uniformity,no natural curl, poor cohesion, rigidity, and poor spinnability. As a result, the yarn quality is low,and the product development and application range is small. The fastness, thermal properties and hygroscopicity of plain woven fabrics of hemp yarns, produced by different spinning methods were compared during our researches.Hemp yarn spinning process and the possibility to improve the long-ramie long-staple spinning equipment for hemp processing is analyzed in this article. Methods of dry and wet spinning have been analyzed during current researches. The strength of the formed hemp yarn, produced by the dry spinning method is low and the hairiness is large, while the strength of yarn, manufactured by the wet spinning process is larger. The developed hot-wet spinning process is suggested for the industrial use, which combines both wet and dry methods to fully utilize the main properties of hemp fibers, such as strength, flexibility along with high performance characteristics in hot and humid environment.Hemp fibers were subjected to high pressure heat and steam in the twisting zone of ramie spinning machine.Atomization and humidifying device was used in the twisting triangle area and the resulted yarn quality was investigated. The quality of the yarn has been improved obviously at the wet steam of 0.4MPa.The 3-5mm hairiness is reduced by more than 30%.
