In China,the main characters of iron ore resource are lean,fine,and complicated.With the increasing demand for iron resources with high quality,many domestic large-scale mines improve iron grade by adding the flotation process,which can separate the silicate from the magnetite.As for the cationic collectors,the reverse flotation can benefit from the single reagent system,fine indexes of mineral dressing as well as the low flotation temperature.However,there are also some drawbacks,such as the superfluous and unbroken foam and even lots of foam running out of the flotation cell.In order to tackle the mentioned problems,a novel cationic collectorester quaternary ammonium salts(M-3)-is prepared,and applied to float the magnetite of roasted iron ore in Jiugang,which obtained good results.In the process of synthesis,one-step synthesis method is comparatively better than the two-step process.The M-3(citric trimester of tri(dodecyldimethyl-2-hydroxypropane)ammonium chloride)was obtained by reacting at 80 ? for 14 h,with n(citric acid): n(dodecyl dimethyl amine): n(epoxy chloropropane)being 1:3:3.2.The elementary and infrared light spectrum analysis show that the product is M-3.The molecular structure of M-3 was optimized by DFT calculation and its quantum-chemical parameters were also obtained by Gaussian09 W.The molecular design of M-3 is proved to be correct and feasible.Electrostatic potential structure indicates that the new cationic collector M-3 interacts with the surface of quartz though the positive ammonium ion,which is similar to dodecylamine.But orbital energy calculation shows that M-3 interacts more easily with the surface of quartz.So it is feasible to take the new cationic collector M-3 in the reverse flotation.Flotation tests of pure minerals show that the new type cationic collector M-3 has good collecting capacity and selectivity for quartz.Good results are obtained by applying M-3 to the reverse flotation of the magnetite of roasted iron ore in Jiugang(feed grade: 51.73%): the grade of iron concentrate was 56.49%,the iron recovery ratio was 69.94% and the effieieney of concentration was 21.11%.Compared with traditional cationic collectors,dodecylamine and ether amine,collector M-3 has better collecting capacity and low temperature resistance.Tests of Two-phase froth indicate that when the concentration of the reagents are kept same,the order of the foaming ability of four collectors was,dodecylamine>M-3>M-302B>ether amine,while their defoaming rate was,M-3>M0302B>ether amine>dodecylamine.The results of Two-phase froth show that M-3 is of good defoaming properties.Tests of Three-phase froth indicate that the order of the initial volume of four collectors was,M-3>odecylamine>M-302B>ether amine,while their defoaming rate was,M-3>M-302B>ether amine>dodecylamine.Provided the effect of collector structure on foam properties,the bigger the polarity base section is,the greater the defoaming ability is.The order of the polarity base section is,M-3>M-302B>ether amine>dodecylamine,which is same as the results of experiment.The results of FTIR and Zeta potential tests indicate that the collector M-3 adsorbed on the face of quartz through the effect of electrostatic adsorption,hydrogen-bond interaction and chemical adsorption.It is consistent with the result of quantum chemistry calculation.
