Study On Preparation Of Brazed Diamond Wheels With Micro-cutting Edge And Its Grinding Performance On AlSiC

Brazed diamond grinding wheel owns the high bonding strength of diamond,high protrusion,and self-sharpness.However,it is very difficult to prepare fine-grained brazed diamond grinding wheels for precision grinding.In this paper,micro-edge brazed diamond wheels are proposed.The corse diamond grits were used to prepare diamond wheel,and the micro-edge and micro-hole arrays on the surface of diamond grits were etched by pulsed laser.The prepared diamond wheels were also used to grind AlSiC composites(70% SiC)in order to test the performance of wheels.The grinding force,grinding temperature and the wear characteristics of the grinding wheels under different grinding parameters were examined.Meanwhile,the material removal mechanism,surface morphologies of ground AlSiC and the wear mechanism of prepared diamond wheels were also investigated.The experimental results showed that the grinding force of orderly arraying wheel(G2)is lower than random arraying(G1).The grinding force of micro-edge wheel(G3)and micro-hole and micro-edge wheel(G4)are lower than G1 and G2.The grinding temperature of G1 is highes,while micro-edge and micro-hole wheel G4 is the lowest.The grinding temperature of G2 is lower than G1.The grinding temperature of G3 is similar with G4.In the grinding,accompany with the plowing of AlSiC,the pulling out,fracture and re-rolling into surface of SiC particles are characterized with the material removal of AlSiC.At the same time,the smear of Al matrix on the grinded surface of AlSiC is also found.The surface roughness of AlSiC grinded by the wheel with micro-edge and micro-hole is smaller than that of other wheels.In the grinding process diamond wheel with micro-edge and micro-hole own more diamond grits' wear form of micro-fracture,and meanwhile the new sharp edges are formed,which improves its self-sharpening and the sharpness of the grinding wheel.
