| Objective This study aims to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and practices of radiographers and their job burnout, regarding radiological protection among radiographers in Hefei city,by analyzing the existing problems among the knowledge, attitudes and practices and the relationships between the three,to improving self-protection awareness,self-satisfaction and reducing job burnout,in order to achieve the health and safety of radiological operators. Methods The self-designed questionnaire of knowledge, attitudes, and practices and the career satisfaction index scale of Schreisheim&Tsui(1980),International Maslach Job Burnout questionnaire was allocated by stratified cluster sampling of radiographers in Hefei city.Special notices were told to the respondents before the survey and the questionnaires were written by the radiographers personally and prudently.A total 364 questionnaires were deliveried and 347 of which were returned lastly, rating 95.3%.The information obtained from questionnaires was coded and entered into Epi Data3.1 after check, then the data was analyzed through SPSS11.5.For categorical variables, data was computed as frequencies and percentages, while for continuous variables data was presented as mean ± standard deviation(SD).The statistical methods included descriptive statistics, independent samples t test,one-way ANOVA,Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test and nonarametric test.Tests were two tailed.P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Investigation on knowledge, attitudes and practices of 347 radiographers regarding radiological protection from 15 medical institutions1 Radiological protection knowledge In the section of radiological protection knowledge,a tolal of 20 questions were asked,1 point was awarded for every right answer. The total score of the respondents awarded range from 5 to 9 points. The mean score is(14.38±2.12).The lowest correct rate was25% and the highest was 95%.The correct rate of 18 respondents’(5.2%)was under60%;272 respondents’(78.4%)was from 60% to 80%;57 respondent was(16.4%)>80%.The radiological protection awareness was related to fllowing factors:types of job, occupational exposure category,Levels of hospital, whether they own a perfect system,Proper training, equipped with dosimeter or not,and having consistent physical examination or not.2 Radiological protection practices A total of 295(85%)radiographers attended the pre-job training before contacting with radioactive sources and kept attending training during work;75(50.4%)radiographers attended twice or more times radiological protection training.255(73.5%)radiographers regarded their institutions have safty organization management aystem.336(96.8%)reported that their institutions owned dosimeters.292(84.1%)radiographers reported that they had personal dosimeters and always wore them.335(96.5%)radiographers believed that it was necessary to have a profession physical examination twice a year.82(23.6%)radiographers were tested with abnormal health indicator through professional physical examination.3 Radiological protection attitudes(Job Satisfaction)Among the different dimensions of the job satisfaction scale, the highest score was“superior relationship”(4.24±0.70)in the dimension of “superior relationship”;the lowest score was(2.80±1.16)in the dimension of “income”.Gender, age, education level, types of work, title, age of work as a radiographer, daily working hours, chronic disease,Levels of hospital, attending the training or not, sufficient or not of training times, physical examing or not;whether they own a perfect system, and whether have personal protective equitments and properly use were influences factors associated with job satisfaction in various dimensions.P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.4 Job Burnout of subjects in the Survey Among the 347 respondents,58.5% of them had emotional exhaustion,54.1% of them had depersonalization,41.8% of them couldn’t feel the sense of personal achievement.Education level, types of work,Occupational exposure category, daily time of exposure,Levels of hospital, attending the training or not, sufficient or not of training times, whether they are equipped with dosimeters or not, whether they have physical examinations, whether they own a perfect system, whether they have personal protective equipments and use it properly were influences factors associated with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and the sense of personal achievements. Conclusion The knowledge, attitudes and practices of 347 radiographers regarding radiological protection were effected by various factors. The radiographers also had job burnout to certain extend. It is advised to improve the radiological protection conditions of radiographers,to build psychological counselling organization to reduce working stress,to improve working enthusiasm by establishing incentive mechanism... |
