With the development of economy, the problem of atmospheric particulate pollution is serious, especially the serious regional haze in recent years, which poses a serious threat to the public health.Particulate matters produced by coal combustion is an important component of fine particles, and it is also a key particle causing haze.At present, there are relatively few studies on the characteristics of single particles emitted directly from major sources of air pollution, and few on the micro-morphology and particle size distribution characteristics of particles emitted from coal combustion. Therefore,in this study, the physical and chemical characteristics of particulate matters from coal combustion were analyzed from both civil and industrial perspectives.Single particle analysis method was used to study the physical and chemical characteristics of particulate matters emitted from coal combustion.Simples from coal combustion experiments were collected using a dilution system. The single particle analysis methods were used to study the particles emitted from different types of coal combustion, and the physical and chemical characteristics of the single particles were analyzed. At the same time, the physical and chemical characteristics of particulate matters emitted by coal-fired power plants were studied by using single particle analysis method. It is found that the morphologies of particulate matters in civil coal combustion are monotonous.According to the microscopic morphology characteristics of the particles emitted by civil coal combustion, the particles of coal combustion are divided into three types: soot aggregate, spherical particles and irregular particles. In the process of bituminous coal combustion, the particles with different morphologies are distributed, and the proportion of soot aggregates in the form of chain decreases with the combustion process.Spherical particles are the main particles emitted from anthracite and honeycomb coal combustion, but soot aggregate in the form of chain was not found. In the combustion process of bituminous coal, the mean particle size distribution is about 0.4 ?m.The variation of the mean diameters of submicron particles emitted from the anthracite and the honeycomb coal combustion are distributed between 0.2 to 0.4 ?m.The particles emitted from two coal-fired power plants were studied with single particle analysis. The morphology and size distribution of submicron particles in the flue gas were analyzed by the TEM analysis. The size distributions of submicron particles were mostly concentrated in the smaller size range of 0.3 to 0.5?m,with the mean value of 0.4?m.The particulate matters in power plant mainly contained the elements O,Si,S,Ca and Al.The above results provide the basic physical and chemical characteristics of primary particles emitted from coal combuston.
