With the development of oil and gas exploration, drilling technology is increasingly progressed and innovated. The development of coiled tubing drilling is imminent, especially in horizontal wells, extended reach wells, multilateral wells and old wells drilling and sidetrack drilling. The main drilling issues would be encountered in the process of coiled tubing drilling, such as large friction, difficulties in transmitting the bit pressure. So,a new kind vibration drag reduction tool for coiled tubing drilling is designed in the paper. The drag reduction tool, driven by turbine, could generate excitation force and the water hammer effect to reduce the friction. In this paper, some main parameters like vibration frequency and excitation force are determined based on the practical demands, and the geometric parameters of the turbine are calculated. In this paper, strength analysis and modal analysis of the drag reduction tool are completed by finite element analysis to verify the structural design. The flow field simulation of the tool is completed to analysis and calculate the pressure drop.According to the indoor experiment program, the drag reduction tool is manufactured and assembled. The working theory of the tool is proved to be feasible through indoor experiment. The working frequency and pressure drop of the tool can be obtained by the data acquisition system. The structural design will be improved by analysis of experimental data, theoretical calculation and simulation results.
