Ceramic body reinforcing agent is an additive for improving the strength of the ceramic green body.At present, due to the lack of high quality clay resources, the strength of the ceramic body is not enough, which leads to the common phenomenon of high breakage rate and low production efficiency,it is necessary to develop a reinforcing agent with good performance. Some foreign reinforcing agents have obvious strengthening effect, but the price is too high, resulting in high production costs;the strengthening effect of most reinforcing agents in China is not obvious, and if added more, the fluidity of the slurry will be seriously affected, which is not conducive to the production process. Therefore,it is of great significance to develop a ceramic body reinforcing agent, which has the advantages of obvious strengthening effect, little influence on the fluidity of the slurry, low cost and simple preparation process. In this paper, the modified starch was prepared by crosslinking-etherifying modification and dry ball milling using corn starch as main raw material. The formulation and preparation process of modified starch was studied, the compound ceramics body reinforcing agent with good performance was obtained by compounding modified starch with some inorganic compounds. The compound ceramics body reinforcing agent was compared with the commercially available reinforcing agent, the slurry fluidity and the bending strength were tested to evaluate their properties. The compound reinforcing agent was characterized by infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy was employed to observe the structure of the ceramic blank and green body’s cross section, and the strengthening mechanism and dispersion mechanism of the compound reinforcing agent were analyzed preliminarily. The results show that the performance of self-made compound reinforcing agent is superior to commercially available reinforcing agent. The influence of the factors on the preparation of modified starch are as follows: the dosage of epichlorohydrin>the dosage of sodium hydroxide> the dosage of ethanol> the dosage of urea> ballmilling time;the best preparation of modified starch is m(corn starch):m(ring oxychloropropane):m(sodium hydroxide):m(urea):m(ethanol)=100:5:10:3:10,and the milling time is 10 min.It was found that the addition of inorganic compounds could improve the fluidityof the slurry to a certain extent by compounding the modified starch with inorganic compounds. The best compound reinforcing agent was obtained by mixing the modified starch with sodium tripolyphosphate in a ratio of 3: 2,when adding 0.5%,the corresponding slurry flow rate was 52 s,and the green body strength was 2.165 MPa.At this time, the strength of the green body is good and the fluidity of the slurry was improved. The optimum amount of compound reinforcing agent in the green body was 0.4-0.5%,the problem that the existing reinforcing agents can not satisfy the green strength and the slurry fluidity at the same time was solved. In the compound reinforcing agent, the modified starch reacts with the phosphate to form the complex copolymer, which bonds ceramic particles together to improve the strength of the ceramic green body. The steric hindrance effect of the modified starch molecules and the electrostatic repulsion effect of inorganic compounds played a synergistic role, which reduces the viscosity of the slurry and improves the fluidity. The results of successful applications of the compound ceramic body reinforcing agent in building ceramics factory show that it can meet the technical requirements of wall and floor tiles well, and effectively improve the strength of green body, reduce product breakage rate and production cost. The compound ceramic body reinforcing agent has good economic and social benefits.
