Different amounts of functional modifier(ZnCl2,CEPPA etc.)were added to prepare the modified PET in the process of synthesis of PET.Some measurements were investigated such as thermal performance,thermal oxidative degradation kinetics,combustion performance,droplet,the structure of the residue and mechanical properties.The results show that there is no change for the decomposition mechanism.when ZnCl2 is added to PET,While adding CEPPA or CEPPA and ZnCl2 together will make the decomposition mechanism become different.when ZnCl2 were added to PET individually,the carbon residue and the Limiting Oxygen Index of PET composite can be increased from 4.75%and 23%to 12.10%and 27%respectively,however,the condition of melt dripping weakened slightly.After adding CEPPA into PET,the LOI was increased from 23%to 28%,but the performance of melt dripping deterioration.As PET containing both ZnCl2 and CEPPA,LOI and carbon residue were,increased respectively.Moreover,the number of the droplet reduced significantly in the condition of PET/ZnCl2/CEPPA composite.In the addition,the rate of heat release(HRR),total heat release combustion(THR)and the Smoke release rate(RSR)are decreased obviously,the oxygen of the residual carbon become lowest and the structure of the carbon layer which has the most dense and compact also in the condition of PET/ZnCl2/CEPPA composite.This proves that ZnCl2 and CEPPA have a synergistic catalytic effect on the combustion process.It can be indicated that the formed carbon layer which were formed in the combustion process of PET/ZnCl2/CEPPA composite can improve the performance of the anti-dripping.
