Hollow plastic pigment is a kind of plastic pigments,which is widely used in various fields.The preparation and application of hollow plastic pigment are studied in detail.First,polymer emulsion with core-shell structure was prepared by means of emulsion polymerization.And then acidic nuclear of polymer emulsion was removed by means of alkali treatment.The hollow plastic pigment was prepared.The effects of the factors on emulsion polymerization and properties of polymer emulsion were researched.The effects of the factors alkali treatment on the hollow plastic pigments were researched.The best conditions of each step in preparation of hollow plastic pigment were obtained.Then the application of the hollow plastic pigment in the paper was studied.The effects of its adding in pulp to make paper and paper surface coating on paper properties were discussed.The main results were as follows:(1)The best preparation conditions of seed emulsion are that stirring speed is 130?140 r/min,reaction temperature is 80?,reaction time is 60 min,emulsifier is SDS and its dosage is 0.5%.The particle size,Zeta potential,pH value and viscosity of prepared emulsion are suitable,its particle size distribution is narrow,its solid content and conversion rate are high,and the appearance of the prepared emulsion is pale blue and its properties are better.(2)The best preparation conditions of seed expanding emulsion are that stirring speed is 140?150 r/min,reaction temperature is 85?,dropping time of mixed monomer is 7 h and the dosage of emulsifier is 0.3%.The particle size,Zeta potential,pH value and viscosity of prepared emulsion are suitable,its particle size distribution is narrow,its solid content and conversion rate are high,and the prepared emulsion has a certain luster and its properties are better.(3)The best preparation conditions of hydrophobic shell emulsion are that stirring speed is 100?110 r/min,reaction temperature is 80 C,dropping time of mixed monomer is 6 h,the dosage of initiator is 1%,the ratio of emulsifier SDBS and OP-10 is 2:3 and its dosage is 0.3%,the dosage of cross-linking agent is 1%,the dosage of acid shell monomer is 1%.The particle size,Zeta potential,pH value and viscosity of prepared emulsion are suitable,its particle size distribution is narrow,its solid content and conversion rate are high,and the prepared emulsion has a certain luster and its properties are better.The prepared emulsion particle size changes with the change of dosage of shell monomer.(4)The best time of alkali treatment is 2.5 h,the initial pH value is 14,the optimum temperature is 90?.The particle size of hollow structure polymer microspheres was about 600 nm after alkali treatment.(5)The prepared hollow plastic pigment is used in papermaking.With the increase of dosage of hollow plastic pigment,the tightness,tensile strength,tear index and folding strength of paper reduce,and the stiffness of the paper increased initially then reduce,paper whiteness and opacity increase,paper gloss reduce,the smoothness of paper made from softwood pulp increases,the smoothness of paper made from wheat straw pulp reduce.When the core-shell ratio of hollow plastic pigment is 1:8,paper performance is better.(6)The prepared hollow plastic pigment is used in paper coating.The tensile index,horizontal tear index and gloss reduction of coated paper decrease while the longitudinal tear index,stiffness,folding,smoothness,whiteness and opacity of coated paper increase.When the core-shell ratio of hollow plastic pigment is 1:8,paper performance is better.
