Magnesium alloy has great advantages in engineering application.Its application has great limitations,because magnesium is very active chemically.So the surface protection of magnesium alloys is essential.Composite materials prepared with carbon nanotubes have excellent performance.This article is mainly conducted a series of experiments on electroless plating of magnesium alloy.Ni-P electroless plating of magnesium alloy at medium temperature was characterized.Ni-P-MWNTs electroless plating of magnesium alloy was prepared.Effects of process parameters on the composite coating were also discussed.Carbon nanotubes treated by mix acid were characterized by SEM.Dispersion of carbon nanotubes modified by the surfactant dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(DTAB)were studied.The results showed that: 1)In the process of the preparation of Ni-P electroless plating of magnesium alloy,the prepared coating under 70? was very uniform and had good compactness.The chemical plating speed met the production requirements.2)Impurities such as catalyst,amorphous carbon and graphite pieces were effectively removed after carbon nanotubes was treated by mixed acid.The pure carbon nanotubes were received.The structure of carbon nanotubes was intact.After the ball mill,carbon nanotube structure was shortened.The dispersion of carbon nanotubes in aqueous solution was more improved.3)After the purified carbon nanotubes were modified by DTAB,the hydroxy and carboxyl functional groups were connected to the carbon nanotube surface structure.The dispersion of carbon nanotubes in water was effectively improved.4)In the process of the preparation of Ni-P-MWNTs electroless plating of magnesium alloy,carbon nanotubes distributed in the composite coating promiscuously through the analysis of the SEM.The content of carbon nanotube in the plating reached the maximum,the mass ratio is about 2.02 wt % when the concentration of carbon nanotubes in plating solution is 1.2 g/L,the temperature is 70?.The Ni-P composite plating and Ni-P-MWNTs composite plating can also be a good corrosion protective effect of magnesium alloy.The corrosion resistance of Ni-P composite plating and the corrosion resistance of Ni-P-MWNTs composite plating were also the same.The influence of carbon nanotubes on the corrosion resistance of the coating was small.
