At present, the all-around modernization of rural areas in China is faced with serious challenges brought by environmental pollution, and rural environmental governance has become the focus of the whole society.Under the circumstances, the rural ecological revitalization is of strategic significance.Based on the Social-Ecological System analysis Framework(SESF),This paper chooses the perspective of“institutions”,and analyzes the impact of institutions on three different types of villagers' willingness to participate in environmental governance. These three different types are the willingness to coercive participation, the willingness to induced participation and the willingness to spontaneous participation respectively,to correspond the low, medium and high level. As for the influence factors, this paper mainly focuses on formal institutions including supervision rules, punishment rules, collective choice rules, and reputation demands, social networks, rural elites as informal institutions. This paper mainly draws the following conclusion:three different types of participation willingness of villagers are affected by the institutional variables from both formal and informal.Supervision can improve villagers'willingness to participate in all three levels.Punishment and collective choice rules only have significant effects on the participation willingness of villagers at a single level. The existence of punishment rules can significantly enhance villagers' willingness to coercive participation, while collective selection rules can significantly promote villagers'willingness to high-level spontaneous participation.Reputation demands have a significant positive impact on the willingness to induced participation and spontaneous participation but has no significant impact on their willingness to coercive participation.Relationship networks and rural elites as informal institutions have significant positive effects on their willingness to the participation of low and middle levels but do not corntribute to villagers'willingness to high-level spontaneous participation. Therefore, rural environmental governance needs corresponding iinstitutional arrangements.By continuously building and improving the formal institutions within villages and at the same time cultivating the informal institutions. In the end,the villagers'participation at a higher level can be realized on the basis of effective participation in envircnmental governance.
