Vertical parting casting technology has developed rapidly in China these years and been widely used in many fields like aerospace,due to its advantages of high efficiency,good casting quality and better surface precision.With the rapid development and popularization of computer-aided design softwares,more and more foundry enterprises abandon the traditional method of process design and use more efficient CAD softwares to replace it.So do foundries that use vertical parting casting technology.However,the gating and feeding system of this technology usually have high degree of standardization,and complicated structure.So It is still difficult to avoid many repetitive and difficult computational and modeling work and greatly improve the efficiency of technology design by using these general CAD softwares.Therefore,there is an urgent demand for professional CAD products suitable for vertical parting casting technology to solve the above problems,and significantly improve the efficiency of vertical parting casting process design.Up to now,most CAD softwares for vertical parting casting technology are obtained by the secondary development of commercial 3D modeling softwares.These softwares are difficult not only to upgrade,but also to popularize.In order to solve these problems,taking the process design of pipe castings in actual production as an example,and considering the actual requirements of curved parting,this article developed a vertical parting casting technology CAD system based on the underlying code of SINOVATION.This system is developed in partnership with Shandong Hoteam software company.Each function in this system is developed on VS 2013 development platform and with the help of V8 development tool.All of these functions are based on vertical parting casting technology design theory and production experience.The interface of each function is defined by XML languaege;the main logic and API function are designed by C++ language.This vertical parting casting technology CAD system has been developed several main functions,including pouring position determination,parting surface creation,castings layout,gating system design and riser design.Finally,the practicability of this system in technology design and optimization process is proved by an example.The position of a casting is random when it is imported,the pouring position determination function can automatically place it in the world's coordinate system according to its actual pouring position.This process is based on computer graphics.This article also gave a new method for extracting parting line and creating parting face of curved parting castings which is better suited to the underlying code of SINOVATION.This method can not only ensure the efficiency of computer operation,but also handle with the problem of creating parting line and parting face better when the casting has curved surfaces or concave features.The parting surface creation function provides two ways to create parting curved surface,either automatically or manually.For planar parting castings,the creation of parting surface is according to the point that users picked up on the contour line.For asymmetric castings,this function also allows users to complete parting surface and copy the casting with only one click,which improves the efficiency of design greatly.At the same time,this function also realized the breakthrough from plane to curved surface,and from interactive to intelligent.The casting layout function provides two kinds of casting layout design modes for users to choose,automatic and customized.This function can both realize the layout design of planar and curved parting casting and the creation of plate.The function of this module is more systematic and comprehensive.In order to ensure the quality of castings,the gating system design function provides a variety of slag stopper structures for users to choose.Two new types of runner structures,the stop-flow and the steady-flow,which are suitable for vertical parting casting technology,are proposed based on the motion law of the inclusion in gating system.The riser design function can be used for riser design of gray cast iron,ductile cast iron and malleable cast iron castings.This function respectively gives the algorithms of creating standard cylindrical top riser,standard spherical top riser and standard cylindrical side riser.The riser parameters were extracted from a database of standard risers according to the riser s module,and then the corresponding three dimensional geometric figures were created.In addition,two types of lap risers are provided to meet different requirements.The vertical parting casting technology CAD system developed in this paper has many advantages.First,it covers most contents of vertical parting casting technology design.Friendly interfaces and rich functions make this system can meet different design requirements well.Second,it allows designers to complete standardized modeling quickly by inputting relevant parameters without complicated drawing operation.That greatly shortens the time of process design and protects users' design inspiration of every second.Third,compared with other vertical parting CAD softwares,this system tends to be more intelligent.That minimizes the reliance of casting process designers on experience and help every user to design reasonable casting technology easily.Last but not least,this software is easier to promote and upgrade,compared with those obtained by secondary development.In a word,this software fills the market vacancy very well.
