The Research Of Actuators Fabricated By Paper-Based Composite Material

Actuating materials can convert different forms of energy(such as electricity,light,heat and chemical energy,etc.)into mechanical energy.The devices fabricated by actuating materials are called actuators.Actuators have excellent development prospect in robotics,medical applications,optical device and bionics.Paper is a kind of very common daily material,which has a lot of characteristics,such as cheap,biodegradable,renewable,lightweight and easy to operate.This paper focus on fabricating high-performance and multi-function actuators by using paper and its composites.Their mechanisms and performances are also studied.First,the paper with the advantages of its porous structure,hydrophilic,humidity-sensitive and flexibility is used to fabricate a new kind of humidity-and light-driven bilayer actuator.The actuator shows a large bending actuation when driven by humidity and near infrared(NIR)light irradiation respectively.The bending actuation is based on a dual-mode actuation mechanism.Second,the paper with the advantages of easy-printing is used to fabricate a colorful paper-based actuator by a printing method.This actuator breaks through the shortcoming of traditional actuator which only has one color.The actuators with various colors have diverse response to different wavelengths of light stimuli.Third,the paper with the advantages of porous structure and flexibility is used to fabricate a new kind of bending actuator with an integrated self-sensing function.When irradiated by NIR light,the actuator bends as the resistance of the actuator changes.It is a multi-functional actuator which have sensing-deformation function.
