Memory And Fabric:Images Of The Recollected And Recalled

The main purpose of this paper is to look at and analyze the works of art created with memory as the material from the perspective of fiber art,and the exploration on how memory is generated and memory itself is not the focus of this paper.Because the scope of memory is too large,this paper will start with two different types of memory,individual memory and collective memory,so as to analyze its expression and presentation in artistic creation.The development and influence of memory on human society provides rich visual materials and text basis for artistic creation,While viewing works of art,we are influenced and changed by memory imperceptibly.Sensitivity to fabric also makes me focus on why the artist chooses fiber fabric,such as clothes,sheets and wool felt,when using memory as the source of creation.This is also the angle from which this paper is different from other papers on memory and art.but also brings more thinking and exploration of fiber art.The first part will elaborate the operation mode of memory from two aspects of "remember" and "memory",and discuss the influence and function of memory on personal daily experience and social history,and the second section will focus on the relationship between the memory and fabric,excavate the commonalities between memory and fiber art,from source of stimulation,plasticity and timeliness three aspects to talk about the expression of fiber art and the art language of fiber art,and to discuss the particularity of memory structure.The second chapter focuses on the artist's autobiographical artistic creation,the first section starts with the works of the Korean artist Do Ho Suh to discuss the relationship between fiber materials and childhood memories.The second section expresses personal experience through other artists' starting with the concrete thing of "bed",and analyzes the unique points of light emitted by fibrous materials in the artistic creation of memory theme.In the third chapter,the study of collective memory will be discussed specifically on counter-memory and post-memory two types of memory.This paper studies Doris Salcedo's series of "memory" sculptures and how she uses the ready-made fiber materials to express trauma and pain;the artistic creation of the artist Christian Boltanski will be the focus of the discussion on the post-memory type,analyzing the significance and purpose of his use of fibre materials to express his works.In conclusion,through the analysis of the relationship between memory and human beings from both individual and collective aspects,hope to understand better what kind of material memory provides for artists in artistic creation,what kind of way to respond for artists to create a new kind of collective memory,in their own artistic creation,what kind of inspiration source and material fragments memory provides.
