The ability to accurately measure the strip and plate width,as well as detect the shape of strip slabs for the purpose of detecting lateral bending called camber,together with the head shape in the course of hot rolling process is essential for the production of high and desired quality steel,and also for achieving ace outturn.In recent times,laser triangulation systems,light sensors,width gauge and many others have been used in hot strip mills to measure the width of iron slabs.Triangulation,which is the measurement of the distance by estimating angle,is a laser mechanics that reflects lights that falls on the receiving object at a particular angle depending on the distance.It determines the position of the object by measuring the reflected light from the target surface.In this study,shape detection and width measurement of slabs using machine vision and image processing techniques is developed.Unlike Laser triangulation method,the developed model is a non-contact method.The purpose of this project is to determine the shape of the head or tail and the degree of lateral bending on the rolling line.The plane CCD camera with the Gigabit interface is arranged before the rough rolling and shearing.The images of the head and tail are collected in real time.A model was developed to remove the impulse noise by computing local similarity analysis and calculating the neighborhood noise evaluation function.Gaussian noise is filtered out by combining the inverse of the gray difference together with the reciprocal of the geometric distance.Improved canny operator is used to extract the sub pixel edge based on detail classification of the head and tail shape on the basis of edge points.Progressive scan width center line,strip body width and scan line width to determine the plane shape and the optimized cutting position.At the same time on the strip side,using the estimated width and shape to determine the curvature radius.The significance of the study is to reduce the cost of the contemporary method of laser measurement and optimize the quality of production.Experimental results proved the effectiveness of the study.
