Polyacrylamide has been widely used in different research fields,such as industrial production,wastewater treatment,and so on.However,it still has disadvantages in some ways,which limits its scope of use.In order to compensate for some of its shortcomings and to make it more usable,different monomers with excellent properties and AM were polymerized.The different polymers were synthesizedbyaqueouscopolymerizationofacrylamide,2-acrylamide-2-methylpropionic sulfonic acid and acryloxyethyl trimethylammonium chloride using complex initiation system.Effects of different factors on the polymers procedure were discussed.The optimum polymerization conditions were obtained.The structures were characterized by FT-IR and ~1H-NMR.The flocculation performance was characterized by the flocculation experiment.The main research contents were given as follows:Firstly,P(AM-AMPS)was synthesized by aqueous copolymerization of acrylamide and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropionic sulfonic acid using complex initiation system.Effects of initiator concentration,the amount of azo initiator,monomer concentration,AMPS dosage,temperature and pH value on the polymer performance were investigated.The optimum conditions were given as follow:the amount of redox initiator was 0.028%,the amount of azo initiator was 0.09%,the monomer concentration was 30%,the dosage of AMPS was 10%,the initial initiation temperature was 5°C,and the pH value was 7-8,the intrinsic viscosity of the polymer up to 1276 mL/g(the molecular weight of polymers was 6.11×10~6 g/mol).The copolymer was characterized by FT-IR and ~1H-NMR to confirm that the P(AM-AMPS)was prepared successfully.The flocculation performance was characterized by the flocculation experiment of simulated wastewater with kaolin suspension,light transmittance of the supernatant fraction up to 93.99%when combined with polyaluminum chloride(60 mg/L)and P(AM-AMPS)(30 mg/L),and the applicable pH range was 7-9.Secondly,P(AM-DAC)was synthesized by aqueous copolymerization of acrylamide and acryloxyethyl trimethylammonium chloride using complex initiation system.Effects of initiator concentration,the amount of azo initiator,monomer concentration,DAC dosage,temperature and pH value on the polymer performance were investigated.The optimum conditions were given as follow:the amount of redox initiator was 0.01%,the amount of azo initiator was 0.06%,the monomer concentration was 25%,the dosage of DAC was 30%,the initial initiation temperature was 5°C,and the pH value was 7-8,the intrinsic viscosity of the polymer up to 1560 mL/g(the molecular weight of polymers was 7.86×10~6 g/mol).The copolymer was characterized by FT-IR and ~1H-NMR to confirm that the P(AM-DAC)was prepared successfully.The flocculation performance was characterized by the flocculation experiment of simulated wastewater with kaolin suspension,light transmittance of the supernatant fraction up to 97.76%when P(AM-DAC)(20 mg/L);the effects of dosage and pH on flocculation capabilities were also tested in actual industrial wastewater,the chromaticity removal rate could more than 73.9%and the COD removal rate could more than 59.92%when P(AM-DAC)(80 mg/L),polyaluminum chloride(110 mg/L),and the applicable pH range was 5-7.Finally,P(AM-AMPS-DAC)was synthesized by aqueous copolymerization of acrylamide,2-acrylamide-2-methylpropionic sulfonic acid and acryloxyethyl trimethylammonium chloride using complex initiation system.Effects of initiator concentration,the amount of azo initiator,monomer concentration,AM dosage,ratio of AMPS and DAC,temperature and pH value on the polymer performance were investigated.The optimum conditions were given as follow:the amount of redox initiator was 0.02%,the amount of azo initiator was 0.08%,the monomer concentration was 25%,the ratio of AM:AMPS:DAC was 90:6:4,the initial initiation temperature was 5°C,the pH value was 7-8,the intrinsic viscosity of the polymer up to 1400 mL/g(the molecular weight of polymers was 6.86×10~6 g/mol).The copolymer was characterized by FT-IR and ~1H-NMR to confirm that the P(AM-AMPS-DAC)was prepared successfully.The flocculation performance was characterized by the flocculation experiment of simulated wastewater with kaolin suspension,light transmittance of the supernatant fraction up to 90%when combined with polyaluminum chloride(30 mg/L)and P(AM-AMPS-DAC)(30 mg/L);the effects of dosage and pH on flocculation capabilities were also tested in actual industrial wastewater,the chromaticity removal rate could more than 58.47%and the COD removal rate could more than 45.84%when P(AM-AMPS-DAC)(50 mg/L)and polyaluminum chloride(60 mg/L),and the applicable pH range was 1-9.
