Panax notoginseng has a wide range of medical functions, such as lowering blood pressure,anti-atherosclerosis,liver protection and so on.People from traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine believe that Panax notoginseng has an important effect on the treatment of liver diseases.Generally speaking, the quality of Panax notoginseng depends on the roots number of each half kilogram.Less number of roots means better quality, vice versa. The market divides the class of Panax notoginseng by its roots number, whose rationality remains to be studied. Moreover, the existing experiments mainly focus on the effects of Panax notoginseng by the damaged liver tissue, but seldom analyze that by the normal liver tissue. Therefore,it is of great significance to scientifically measure the main components of Panax notoginseng and to analyze its influence on the normal liver. In this research the main components of Panax notoginseng with different roots number were tested, and the different medicinal value of them were investigated. The water solution of Panax notoginseng powder with different roots number was continuously feeding to normal mice, thus the safety of different Panax notoginseng on mice were investigated. The first chapter overviewed the research progress on the main components of Panax notoginseng and its medicinal value, analyzed the main purpose and significance of this study, and introduced the main contents of this study. The second chapter measured the main components of Panax notoginseng and studied the differences of Panax notoginseng saponins(PNS),dencichine and flavonoids compounds with different roots number(20,30,40,60).The results showed that different roots number have small difference in PNS.PNS with 20 roots was the highest, reaching 8.20%,and PNS with 30 roots was the lowest, reaching 7.18%.Dencichine of Panax notoginseng with different roots number was obviously different.Among them, the content of dencichine with 30 roots was the highest, reaching 3.26 mg/g,while dencichine with 40 roots was the lowest, reaching 2.19 mg/g.The content of flavonoids compounds with different roots number has small difference. The highest content was flavonoids compounds with 30 roots, reaching 0.165%,and the lowest was 60 roots, reaching 0.129%.The third chapter divided healthy KM female mice(6-8 weeks)into five groups: Panax notoginseng solution group with 20 roots,30 roots,40 roots,60 roots and a control group. The results showed that the weight, diet and activity of mice exposed to different Panax notoginseng solution exposed to Panax notoginseng solution have little change.Rat's liver coefficient decreased to some extent, which suggested the exposure of Panax notoginseng has certain influence on rat's liver.Four genes in rat's liver such as TGF-?1,CTGF,Collagen1 and Smad3 were up-regulated,suggesting that Panax notoginseng may induce liver fibrosis in mice. What's more, impact of Panax notoginseng in liver has no connection with the roots number. The fourth chapter introduced the extraction of PNS,which mainly involved six processes: extraction, concentration, water sedimentation, purification, decolorization and desiccation. The extraction processes were determined according the expected annual output 3 t.This paper then constructed the PNS extraction plant in an all-round way, such as designing production program, producing department, volume calculation, equipment selection and production organization and so on,which provided a significant basis for the industrialized production of PNS products. The fifth chapter summarized the main conclusions of this study and provided future research suggestions.
