Study On Furniture In Paintings In The Middle And Late Ming Dynasty

Compared with other dynasties,the period of middle and late Ming Dynasty is very distinctive in Chinese history,with the political structure changing and the current political situation fluctuating and turbulent.Meanwhile,because of the official corruption,many literati went into quandary.However,the unprecedented prosperity of the economy and the innovation in the cultural field had a great effect in helping people break through the traditional shackles,resulting that the consumption concept and life style presented a new look.At that time,attention of many literati who escaped from the officialdom shifted into the pursuit of temperament and interest in daily life and became more interested in the fields of painting and writing,gardening,furniture design.Under this special background,the design and development of Ming-style furniture emerged.The literati directed the development of Ming-style furniture with their own special aesthetic tastes,and wrote books and set up a theory under the background of having close contact with craftsmen,and created the golden age of Chinese traditional furniture together.The paper is divided into three parts,which mainly use the literature research method and comparative research method to analyze the furniture appearing in the paintings of the middle and late Ming Dynasty,and then to further explore the role of the literati class in promotion improvement on the development of Ming-style furniture.The first part is about the introduction and overview.It generally introduces the related background,the current situation,purpose and significance of the research of Ming-style furniture,and expound the research methods and basic framework construction.It mainly introduces the background and common types of Ming-style furniture,deeply analyses a series of changes and reforms in the social,political,economic and cultural fields in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,and explores the changes of people's mentality and the circumstances in Ming Dynasty under the social changes,as well as the favorable conditions for the appearance of Ming-style furniture resulted from the development of commercialization and urbanization.The second part is about the research on furniture.In this part,the painting data which has been collected will be mainly sorted out to select representative works,and then summarize them according to different social levels.By analyzing the different pursuits of furniture and aesthetic differences from all social classes,it explores the status,role and influence of literati in the process of development of Ming-style furniture.The third part is for conclusion,mainly summing up the full paper and expounding the arguments based on the above discussion.
