Hydrogels are ?soft and wet? materials that consist of three-dimensional cross-linked networks and can absorb a large amount of water while maintain their shapes.Research on this type of hydrogels has been prompted by the potential applications in many fields such as drug-delivery system,sensing devices and tissue engineering.The scope of hydrogel applications,however,is often badly limited by their poor mechanical behaviours.One important reason for its low mechanical strength is that the crosslinking points are distributed irregularly and the polymer chains between the crosslinking points have different lengths,the stress cannot be evenly distributed between the polymer chains.Improving the crosslinking points' distribution to build unique network is an effective method to improve the mechanical properties of hydrogels.With the rapid development of industry in our modern society,people benefit from the advanced technology on the one hand,they become the victims of the industrial pollution on the other.Particularly,the presence of heavy metal ions in sewage originating from chemical manufacturing,painting and coating,mining,extractive metallurgy,nuclear and other industries can easily pollute the underground water,which exerts a detrimental effect on the fauna and flora.Water treatment technology becomoes a hot topic.Due to the facile preparation process,environment friendly properties and easy disposition,adsorption is an effective way to remove those heavy metal ions.To cope with the mentioned issues,our detailed study works are described as following:(1)Based on synthesizing method,we introduced diamine monomer which contains N,N'-dimethyl groups into PEA chains.Cooperating with APS to be the redox initiating system,this kind of PEA can act as both the initiator and the crosslinker,which can provide a more homogeneous crosslinking network to the hydrogel.And the hydrogel obtains a improved mechanical properties.(2)According to the preparation method of PEA,we synthesized a novel kind of PEA ended with epoxy groups and used the PEA to react with gelatin,which is a partial hydrolysis product of collagen and contains a large number of amino groups,to form a crosslinking network.This crosslinked membrane can keep its mechanical even immersing in water for a long time,which is easy for post dispositon.And this gelatin/PEA membrane show an ability to absorb different kind of heavy metal ions.
