As a kind of cultural phenomenon and psychological process derived from the instinct of human existence,"symbol" expresses certain abstract concepts or emotions through the use of specific things. It is a symbol of landscape,a sentiment for plants, and its application in jewelry runs through ancient and modern times. With the improvement of economic and spiritual civilization, the traditional jewellery which rooted in traditional cultural folklore and class concept can no longer meet the jewellery needs of modern people who want to express individuality and emotional resonance. In this context,Modern jewelry came into being. It fuzzy values and emphasis on humanistic care.Along with the change of the culture of the times, the “symbol”inherits the traditional symbolic characteristics,be joined the language of the times, and the personal style of the author as well. Its scopes and semantic forms are constantly expanded and enriched.Nowadays,it plays a new look in modern jewelry.Because it creates a hidden and thought-provoking design atmosphere for modern jewellery,it guides the correct value orientation of modern jewellery and full of great research values. The discussion of symbolic semantics in modern jewellery is mainly based on the three components of styling, material and color. The text firstly defines the concept of “symbolic semantics” and “modern jewelry”,and clarifies the content and scope of the research.Secondly,it describes the changes of symbolic semantics in jewelry around the three components of jewelry. The change reflects the characteristics of the symbolic semantics in jewelry. Then, based on the analysis of specific cases,it summarizes the application principles and laws of symbolic semantics in modern jewelry design, and discusses its application value and significance. And finally as a reference to the theory and examples of my graduation design practice. The article provides a relatively complete theoretical foundation for the symbolic application in modern jewellery, and provides a new perspective for the creation and expression of modern jewellery.
