Rare earth doped strontium aluminate loIg afterglow material,SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+,is widely used in long afterglow coatings because of its high afterglow brightness,long afterglow time and stable luminescence.In this paper,the research progress of strontium aluminate long afterglow materials and water-based long afterglow coatings are reviewed.The surfaee eoating treatment of strontium aluminate long afterglow material,the preparation and test of water-based long afterglow composite coating were studied.The best process for coating long afterglow materials is to prepare SiO2 gel at 80? reaction temperature by using tetraethyl orthosilicate as silicon source and the right amount coating amount,aging 5h,After wet heat treatment,it can be dried at normal temperature and pressure.After coating,the long afterglow materials were tested by water resistance,SEM,afterglow performance,UV-Vis analysis and other related properties.The results show that the water resistance of the long afterglow material is improved obviously after coating.The SEM shows that the SiO2 coating layer on the surface of the material is smooth and compact.The excitation and emission spectra show that the main structure of the material is not changed after coating.After coating,the afterglow brightness and afterglow time of the long afterglow material decrease to 92.32%and 92.37%of that before coating,with little change.In this paper,water based long afterglow coatings were prepared by self-made SiO2 coated SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+long afterglow materials as main functional filler and water-based silicone acrylate emulsion as film forming material.The properties of the coating,such as afterglow brightness,afterglow time,reflectivity and drawing adhesion,were measured.It can be found from the result that the initial afterglow brightness of the water-based long afterglow composite coating prepared with thickness of 550 ?m,with dry film thickness of 50 ?m was 5.998cd/m2 and the afterglow time was 30.9h,which was 41.90%and 26.05%higher than that of the single long afterglow coating with 550 ?m dry film thickness.
