In recent years,China's agricultural development has made great progress, but with the excessive consumption of agricultural resources and the random discharge of waste, the agricultural sector has become China's second largest source of carbon emissions,it has become urgent to improve the high carbon and high pollution status of agriculture. At the same time, the agglomeration of agricultural industry is gradually becoming an effective choice for China's agricultural transformation and upgrading, and for the connection of agricultural modernization.Theoretically, agricultural industrial agglomeration,as a compact space economic organization, will produce positive and negative externalities on agricultural carbon emissions through various agglomeration effects. However, the existing research mainly focuses on the impact of industrial(manufacturing)industrial agglomeration and carbon emissions, and from the perspective of the agricultural sector,it focuses on the agricultural industry agglomeration or agricultural carbon emissions from a single perspective,it is rare to study the two.In view of this, this article integrates agricultural industrial agglomeration and agricultural carbon emissions into a unified analysis framework, which helps to grasp the influence of modern agricultural industrial agglomeration on agricultural carbon emissions, and has important practical and theoretical significance for promoting the development of low-carbon agriculture.Based on the above research background, this paper focuses on agricultural industry agglomeration and agricultural carbon emission intensity as the main research object from both theoretical and empirical levels. At the same time,it considers agricultural energy intensity, and builds a unified theoretical analysis framework to analyze in depth the mechanism by which agricultural industry agglomeration affects agricultural carbon emission intensity, and propose research hypotheses.Second, the spatial and temporal characteristics of agricultural industrial agglomeration, agricultural energy consumption, and agricultural carbon emissions in mainland China and 30 provincial-level administrative regions from 2000 to 2016 were analyzed using spatial Gini coefficients, geographical average agglomeration degrees, and energy consumption methods. Finally, using the data of 30 provincial panels in China as the research sample, the empirical test of the research hypothesis was made using the mediation effect method and the systematic GMM estimation method.Through the above studies, several conclusions are drawn:(1)China has a steady and increasing trend of geographical agglomeration of the agricultural industry, and most provincial-level administrative regions are in the middle agglomeration stage. The agricultural sector in China and provinces are facing greater pressures on energy conservation and carbon emission reduction.Fertilizer is the main source of agricultural energy consumption and the main source of agricultural carbon emissions.(2)There are two ways of direct and indirect effects of agricultural industrial agglomeration on agricultural carbon emissions.Agricultural energy intensity bears part of the mediating effect of agricultural industrial agglomeration affecting agricultural carbon emission intensity.(3)The agglomeration of agricultural industry may have the dual effects of energy conservation and agricultural carbon emission reduction. That is,there is an "inverted U" curve relationship between agricultural industry agglomeration and agricultural carbon emission intensity, and there is also an "inverted U" curve relationship between agricultural energy intensity and agricultural carbon emission intensity. When the agglomeration of the agricultural industry crosses a certain critical point,it will simultaneously inhibit the agricultural energy intensity and agricultural carbon emission intensity.(4)Both agricultural carbon emission intensity and agricultural energy intensity have strong space-time dependence.
