The application of reasonable flow control devices in tundish is beneficial to prolong the residence time of the liquid steel,reduce the dead zone volume,improve the rationality of the liquid steel flow in tundish and promote the removal of nonmetallic inclusions in the liquid steel.In this paper,a 30 t single-strand tundish in a steel plant is used as the object to study the influence of the parameters of the control flow on the residence time and flow field of the liquid steel in the tundish by the combination of physical simulation and numerical simulation,which provides the theoretical and experimental basis for the optimization of the structure and arrangement of the flow control devices in the tundish with argon blowing.The main conclusions in this paper are as follows:(1)With the increase of the spacing between the weir and dam,the lifting effect of the dam on the steel flow is weakened.The smaller the distance between the weir and dam or the increase of the height of the dam will result in the uplift effect of the dam on the liquid steel flow is too strong.These are not conducive to the formation of the effective surface flow in the tundish.(2)The increase of the inclination angle of the dam diversion hole will cause the liquid steel flowing out of the orifice to form the ascending current,which will act to raise the molten steel flow through the dam.It will prolong the flow trajectory of the liquid steel in the tundish and increase its residence time.(3)When blowing argon at the bottom of tundish,if the gas is too small,the influence on the liquid steel flow is even small and it is not conducive to the inclusions floating,if the gas is too large,it will lead to intense flow on both sides of the argon curtain and it has great impact on the liquid steel surface in tundish,which will cause liquid steel exposed or even slag entrapped.(4)Under the condition of this study,the best argon blowing flow control parameters in the tundish are: the distance between the weir and dam is 450 mm,the spacing between the dam and the submerged entry nozzle is 1160 mm,the height of the dam is 280 mm,and the inclination of the diversion hole in the dam is 30°,the permeable brick is installed at the bottom of the stair and the amount of argon is blown between 20.84-31.26L/min.
