Silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles have been used widely in industrial catalysis, photocatalysis, antibacterial and other fields owing to their unique properties such as small size effect, surface effect and quantum size effect. With the continuous improvement of living standard, domestic and foreign consumers have an increasing demands for ceramic, plastic, fiber and other products which have antibacterial activity. How to prepare antibacterial materials to meet the market requirements is still an urgent practical problem to be solved. In this paper, the appropriate preparation conditions for silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles were obtained using different kinds of surfactants and appropriate solvent systems by changing the reaction temperature, reaction time, water content of the reaction system, the amount of surfactant added and the concentrations of precursor. The antibacterial properties for the obtained silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles were characterized by changing the addition amount of nanoparticles, the contact time between nanoparticles and escherichia coli and so on.Silver nanoparticles with different sizes and morphology were synthesized through solution chemistry by using silver nitrate as the precursor, polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)and sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)as surfactants in ethanol or water as solvents.ZnO-Ag nanocomposite particles were obtained by using silver nitrate and zinc acetate as precursors, ethanol as solvent,PVP and SDS as surfactants. The optical properties and sizes of silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis and TEM and the kinetic curves of silver nanoparticles under different reaction temperature, precursor concentration,PVP and water content were obtained.Zinc oxide nanoparticles were prepared by using zinc acetate as precursor, ethanol as solvent and sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)as surfactant. The samples were characterized by UV-Vis?XRD and TEM,the results show that the obtained zincoxide nanoparticles could give an apparent quantum size effect. The antibacterial properties of the synthesized silver nanoparticles and zinc oxide nanoparticles were characterized by using the cultured escherichia coli.During the experiment, the addition amount of silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles in the sterilization process and the contact time with escherichia coli were changed. The results show that the silver and zinc oxide nanoparticles obtained in this paper have good sterilization effect on escherichia coli.
