Unlike the catalytic hydrogenation of already mature noble transition metal catalysts, although their catalysts have achieved high catalytic turnovers and excellent stereoselectivity, the rarity in the earth's crust and intrinsic toxicity limit future wider applications of these metals in hydrogenation reactions.Manganese is the third richest transition metal in the earth's crust. It has the advantages of cheap price, less toxicity, and various oxidation states, which may become a new potential choice for catalytic hydrogenation.Particularly, researches on the hydrogenation conversion and utilization of glucose, quinoline, imine, anthracene and other molecular compounds catalyzed by other transition metals have matured(such as palladium,nickel,ruthenium,rhodium,etc.).However,there are few reports on the application of manganese catalysis in the hydrogenation of these compounds. As such, its research has important theoretical significance and practical value, and it is also highly desirable in future research in various fields. In this paper, through the exploration of manganese compounds and their properties,manganese-NHC cooperative catalysis was used for the first time to achieved the reaction of molecular hydrogen and abundant glucose in biomass to produce methanol. And the used of simple manganese compounds has eliminates the previous need for ligands or bases and successfully achieved the effective hydrogenation of quinoline, imine and its derivatives.By further explored the reaction, the optimal reaction conditions were finally determined, the substrate was extended and characterized, and possible reaction mechanisms were also proposed. Then it was further applied to the homogeneous catalysis of the stable compound anthracene, the effects of N-containing additives were explored, and 2 equiv.of N-containing bipyridine was successfully used as an additive to achieve the efficient hydrogenation of anthracene.
