Acetone and diethylamine have very important applications in chemical and pharmaceutical industries.During the ammoniation reaction of propipatamol hydrochloride, the waste liquid containing diethylamine/acetone azeotrope was produced when acetone contacted diethylamine.Because the ordinary distillation technology can not purify the higher purity diethylamine or acetone from the waste liquid containing diethylamine/acetone azeotrope, the separation process design and optimization of diethylamine/acetone azeotrope were carried out by extractive distillation in this paper. In this paper, dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)or ethylene glycol(EG)was used as extractant, and Aspen Plus was used to design and optimize the extractive distillation process. The vapor-liquid equilibria of DMSO,EG and diethylamine/acetone azeotropic system were studied.Based on the model parameters obtained from experimental data regression, the influence of the selected extractant on the separation process was discussed. In this paper, the feasibility of DMSO and eg as extractants was determined based on the principle of similar phase solubility and COSMO-SAC model. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data of diethylamine/acetone,diethylamine/DMSO,diethylamine/EG,acetone/DMSO and acetone/EG systems were measured at atmospheric pressure(101.3kPa).The thermodynamic consistency test of herington method and Van Ness method was passed.Wilson,NRTL and UNIQUAC were used to regress the experimental data, and the thermodynamic parameters of the model were obtained. In order to minimize the total annual cost(TAC),the sequential iteration method was used to optimize the extractive distillation process of diethylamine/acetone system with DMSO or EG as extractant.Through optimization, the optimal values of equipment parameters and operation parameters such as the number of trays, reflux ratio, tower diameter and feed position of the two processes are obtained. The TAC of the best extractive distillation process of diethylamine/acetone system with EG as extractant and DMSO as extractant was compared. The results showed that in the extractive distillation process of diethylamine/acetone,the TAC of EG as extractant was 53.94% lower than that of DMSO.The basic chemical experimental data and process parameters obtained in this paper can provide theoretical guidance for the industrial separation of such azeotropes.
