Material flow analysis is a systematic analysis of material flow and storage in a specific system within a certain time and space.It provides methodological support for resource,waste and environmental management decisions.Through material flow analysis,we can find the flow rules of toxic and harmful substances,so as to guide and control them.Zhangye city's geographical location determines the representation and vulnerability of its natural environment.It not only belongs to the northwest semi-arid region,but also lies in the fragile ecological environment.The study of the material flow in this area and the analysis of the material flow on the time series are of great reference significance to the ecological environment protection in China,and can put forward reasonable Suggestions and opinions for the development of the ecologically fragile areas.PIOT(physical input-output table)as a tool to show the input-output status of regional industrial products in detail,PIOT also plays an extremely important role in studying the metabolism of cities and solving regional environmental problems,and is an important data source for the establishment of material flow account system.However,in our country,physical table because of the impact of various factors and few cities.In this paper,after integrating a variety of recognized compilation methods,a relatively complete standardized compilation process of physical table was formed by means of practice test theory,and physical input-output table of Zhangye city in 2008 from 2008 to 2017 was also obtained.The physical input-output table provides an important data source to establish the material flow account system.After that,the panoramic analysis of material flow and input-output analysis were carried out,and the main results and conclusions obtained were as follows:(1)The demand for tap water in Zhangye city is more than ten million tons in ten years,which is fluctuant and rising trend.The research shows that the population and economy of Zhangye city are growing and the demand for living and production water is growing day by day.(2)The output of fuel and ore first decreased and then increased,which indicates that Zhangye has gradually found a suitable mining method to promote economic development on the premise of environmental protection.(3)From 2008 to 2017,the annual generating capacity of Zhangye city has not been dependent on the inflow from outside the region,and about 15% to 45% of the output is supplied to the area outside the region,which indicates that the productivity of power energy in Zhangye city is not only self-sufficient,but also transported to the surrounding backwater areas.(4)The total material input and output of Zhangye city are characterized by rising fluctuations.It is speculated that the total material demand of Zhangye city will be more volatile in the next few years,which is more likely to continue to decline.The protection of natural environment is still the most important in zhangye city development process.(5)Hidden flow accounts for about 80% in both input and output terminals,which is so dominant that the ecological burden is relatively heavy in the economic development process of Zhangye city.In the later stage,the proportion of hidden flow decreased,which indicates that Zhangye city has achieved initial success in natural environment protection due to its strong support for tourism industry.For the future development direction of Zhangye city,it is necessary to promote tourism development with scientific concept,layout,method and mechanism,so as to realize the development and utilization of low consumption and high environmental protection to the natural ecological environment of Zhangye City.
